Didn't care for Perry but good pick up for Dallas, as the guy will prob be much better with more time since injury.

 

But look at the solid return he got. Leafs can now protect Barrie and at worst lose Kerfoot to Seattle.

The Leafs don’t have to worry about cash. Just another body to send to Robidas Island. It was a good trade to get rid of Sparks and any questions around who is the Leafs backup.

Vasi got paid. I find it interesting in a league trending towards goalies that play 40-55 games that we are still seeing top end goalies getting close to 10 million AAV.

On another note I see Tampa’s strategy to sign Point appears to send Callahan to Robidas island lol.

For Marner? I don't think it'll happen. Lots of smoke there and I'm sure Lou would love to stick it to the Maple Leafs for what happened around Tavares, but he also knows paying Marner 11 million won't help his team. It'll just restock the Leafs with picks and allow them to resign Barrie if they want to mid season. The rumor I've heard is Marner will sign for 5 years at 10 AAV, almost all bonus, after the Leafs submit their final roster. Something about how that works out best under the cap with the way in season injured reserve works.

 

I also feel like it would be insane if the Islanders did offer sheet him. The pick compensation would be the deal breaker for me, aside from likely having to over-pay him. On the flip-side, I do find it hard to believe that he will sign for less than Matthews/Tavares, based on what is all being said, so it'll be interesting to see how it all unfolds.

 

I love how the media has people focused on the Leafs when this isn’t just their problem, Point, Laine, Tkachuk and others are also unsigned RFAs. Lots of quality young forwards on teams with limited cap space aren’t rushing to sign contracts.
