I think I may have posted this before but Hobbes likes his favorite toy, one of my old bootlaces, to stay in his food bowl when not being played with. I leave it in various places around the house when I leave in the morning and when I get home in the evening there it is, back in the bowl again.

Gert is like that too. But.. I found her chewing on it one day and just starting to swallow it. Now only supervised play.

Looks like someone missed us while we were on vacation. Won't let us out of his sight. In fact he is laying on the floor staring at me now.

well we had a bad night with our kitten that the wife found and bottle fed back to health... she didn't come back inside and I couldn't find her when I got home at midnight. wife went outside in the AM and called into the backyard and she walked out of the bushes slack jawed and in shock. got her inside and she had blood on her chest and wouldn't close her mouth much. she drank some water and it felt like she had crackly mylar type material between her skin and muscle layer on her sides. she just had that 100 yard stare the whole time and would just sit there. we took her to the vet and the xrays showed definite air pockets on her sides between the skin and muscle layers and with no visible external wounds except one in her mouth (which halfway explains the slack jaw) we're still unsure what put the air there. shes home now and resting but shes still just got that 1000 yard stare to her.

Just a guess but she ingested some type of poison. Did the vet do a blood test?

no, but there were other traumas and she was able to hold down water fine right after we found her. I actually didn't even think about poisons. the whole situation was weird. she came from a part of the yard that she never goes. we've had hawks come in for our chickens so we think it was that or an owl that snagged her and dropped her, but again theres no real visible marks from talons.

might have got nicked by a car? If its some kind of owl or hawk there would be punctures. Thats some heavy trauma to get air under the skin...in deer its caused by a bullet or arrow.

we don't have any roads by us that she could have been nicked by thankfully. and yea s soon as I felt her side I immediately thought she had a punctured lung and it was bubbling under the skin. im at a loss to explain it. she came from an area that she never goes and doesn't have the normal "got snatched up by a predator" marks. but shes all screwed up nonetheless. who knows. natures a weird place

I guess I have to be the one to ask why you would let a kitten outside unsupervised. We all have our opinions regarding inside or outside cats, but this is a kitten.

Really hope the little one comes out of this okay. That's the most important thing to worry about at the moment.

Was cleaning the cat box last night and found where my missing earplugs went....was funny but a little scary at the same time, those little foam ear plugs grow in size to mold into your ear canal and easily could have been a choking hazard. Not going to put them on the night stand anymore.

One of my 3 loves to bat them around... We keep them in a drawer and try to not let him get to any.
On a sad note, my daughters friend who fosters kittens just lost the two that she has been caring for for a couple of weeks. They came to her home in not-so-great shape and unfortunately succumbed to their ailments yesterday evening. :(

Sorry to hear about the kittens :(

yeah my cat Harley likes to eat anything that resembles a hair tie, rubber band, or earplug apparently lol. He sleeps above our heads every night and early this morning he woke my wife and I up because he had a coughing fit...no idea what triggered it but I immediately thought he might be choking on an earplug and mine had fallen out of my ears, but luckily they were both on the bed. Not sure why he was coughing so much but he's been fine all morning since

I normally don't wear them but my brother in law is staying with us this month and he stays up late and makes all kinds of noise throughout the night so I need them to keep my sanity lol

I guess it depends on your definition of a kitten. shes almost 6 months old now. I still call her a kitten, but she was plenty big enough to play around on the porch and in the bushes. we know her range and her places that she goes when she does go outside (which she prefers to stay inside with us anyways 99% of the time) so after a while we just let her go out and sun herself on the porch and chase bugs in the bushes. whatever happened to her could have just as easily happened to our full grown cat, or one of our 10 chickens, or our rabbit. I guess we just have different comfort zones on what we let our animals do. maybe I just think differently growing up where inside animals were pretty much unheard of and we had many outside cats that started as kittens, puppies (we had lab that we bred, another no no I know.), dogs etc. none were inside animals and supervision I guess was lacking too. accidents happen. im not blind to it, or pretend that I can create an impenetrable bubble that my family and pets can live in unharmed from the outside world. we're giving our pets the most spoiled, good life that we can. but no ones perfect.
