All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
This shouldn’t be left in your hands to deal with. Either Nitro needs to take it on the chin or the installer. Definitely not you.

I'm thinking of running a 285/75/17 which is a 34" tire. I regularly run 80mph down the freeway right now on my stock Tacoma and it's great. I travel to and from mountain area's on 3 hour trips down the interstate regularly. Eventually I am planning to add some weight, aluminum skids and sliders, but that's about it. You think when I change tire 5.29 will be a solid choice for me?

I currently have that tire size and armored front to back. Bed rack and RTT. Lots of added weight. I currently am running the 4.88’s. They are great. If they would’ve had the 5.29’s at the time, I likely would’ve went with them.

Right on. I go back and forth between 4.88 and 5.29 a lot. Seems most share your opinion that they would’ve gone 5.29 given the choice. I’m not planning on adding much weight so I’m mixed between the two because of the amount of freeway driving I do. I’m still leaning toward 5.29 because I do tow a 3600lb trailer from time to time.

Bleh wish I’d seen it sooner. Good luck tho.

Got tired of waiting so I decided to just put them in myself. Plus we figured out my front 4.30s would of Grenaded. Saved them in time tho. 4wp didn’t tighten the front crush sleeve down enough. We saved it in time tho. Should finish up tomorrow.

Rogue sent me the wrong crush sleeve for the front. Kit was open when I got it. Wasn’t too bad though. About three after work days. I’ll finish up tomorrow hopefully if I can get the right crush sleeve.

Trying to calculate rpm with 5.29 on AT at 55mph in 4th and 5th gear and 33” tire.

My math comes to 2045 RPM for 33” in 5th gear and 2965 RPM in 4th gear at 55mph. This seem correct?

Right on Joe. I wonder how it’ll pull my trailer in 5th at this rpm down the highway.
Awesome, thank you Joe, I guess I'll have some things to consider, right now I tow at 55 in 4th gear on a Stock SR5 with stock tires at right around 2400~2500rpm down the freeway. 2045 seems a bit low to have power to pull down the freeway but I could be wrong and then at 3k a bit high. perhaps I'll have to consider towing a bit faster or slower at cruise speeds. Anyone that tows a travel trailer care to chime in what gear they cruise in? mines right around 3800lbs maxed out.

I have a stupid question. Does the master kit include new seals? I have some weeping around my diff and would like to get that taken care of when the new gears go in.

Most folks talking about 3.5 autos, but what about a 3rd gen 2.7 5spd?

Is it safe to say with the added weight of the truck alone compared to 1st/2nd gens for the little 2.7 would definitely need 5.29s for 35s? I know Diablo (with his Brocoma) had stock gears, yikes, but then went 4.88. Curious what the consensus is given the stock 3.92 gearing.

My math puts me at 2750 @ 70mph (33s + 4.88) while ~2900 @ 70mph (35s + 5.29). Considering right now I get better mileage at 2900-3000rpm in 4th compared to 2300 in 5th when on the freeway with a semi hilly commute (wayyyy less throttle needed), I’m not opposed to running 3k on the freeway knowing that motor is probably happier in its usable powerband.

all hypothetical IF I went 35s.

I just can’t jusify spending thousands on suspension, regear, wheels, tires, etc just for 285s. If I’m going to lift and go through all the cutting to properly stuff bigger meats, it’s going to be 315s. Otherwise she’s staying stock or maybe skinny 33s thanks to being able to stuff them on a stock rig.
