Guys this is a bargain considering that recovering it “the Toyota way” is to buy a new ~$1000 ECU.

Even if your ECU isn’t bricked and you want to flash an NA ECU to the TRD tune, the Toyota way is using the Toyota supported Mongoose cable which is about $500 and a two-day subscription to Techstream is $65.

Hinson was cheapest I found due to the fact they don't charge tax unless you live in Alabama. Free fast shipping too. Got mine delivered the day after I ordered it. 489.95 and includes the 4 credits you need to flash. Amazon charges me state tax since I live in NY so it would have cost me more.

Interesting to note that when Toyota replaced my pcm they used a different model number. So both should work for a 09 4x4 AT for what it's worth and if it helps someone... Anyways about to try and flash my non trd pcm to trd specs. Should let me limp around till I get a trd reflash done. 20190812_133626.jpg

Anybody know if I can buy a 2013 or 2014 ecm and flash it with a 2015 TRD tune? I still have the calibration file for a 2015 supercharger tune from when I flashed my vehicle with techstream. Looking into a backup ecm just in case now like everyone else. Seems like eBay 2015 ecms are a bit pricey.

i was going to reflash my truck with the justdsm 91 oct tune for a road trip im doing this weekend, but after reading the last few pages, not worth rolling the dice right now...

I have a 2013 6-speed 4x4. Does this fall under the years that are hard to get a hold of for a spare ECU ?

Im sure a ticket with HPTuners could sort that right up. But from my understating if its not the same cal and part number ecu with the same vin, you wont be able to flash as thats how credits are licensed.

Ticket submitted. Awaiting response. Is there anything else I can change via techstream to make the ecm the same in the eyes of hptuning?

I dont think so, considering they are different ECU part numbers.

Im gonna go out on a limb and say that any MT truck (especially the 6 lug MT trucks) is gonna be MUCH harder to find that autos.

It certainly was when I needed one a couple of years ago!
+1. That was defnitely my experience - harder to find and more expensive if/when you do.

Yes, only 2013-2014 6spd ECUs will work with your 2013. I bought an additional one for my truck and used one out of a 2014. Very hard to find though, and i paid about 185, where as the auto ECUs can be had for cheaper

I'm really sorry to hear of these failures it seems the ticket i checked was a loss of comms (ie. the PCM just stopped responding), i don't see any software related issues. We will look at ways to speed up the write to give less of a "window" for problems to happen, we'll be testing it in house. I think for guys that want to flash a lot investigating a bench harness is probably a good idea. As i mentioned in an earlier post this was a common practice in the early LS engines.

I thought I remembered reading a post in this thread of someone running a auto ecu in a manual truck without issues ? or was it the other way around ?

Definitely not the other way around but auto working in a manual I could kinda see that except for the neutral safety switch

@JustDSM has succesfully run an auto ECU in his 6spd manual, but he says the rev hang is nonexistent/revs drop quicker, so it takes some getting used to

Is there a reason why the software went from a write in one fell swoop then verify to seemingly write one block verify one block? (about 2 months ago i noticed this change)

This can now be adjusted on Auto ECU's so you can bring some of the "rev hang" back if a full removal is too much. Personally I run mine at 50% of stock values.

We haven't changed the write method since we released Toyota, we follow pretty much exactly the OEM method.
