    Too few to list.
150K + in our 5th Gen 4runner with the canister type filter and mainly used mobil 1 since new with 10K intervals and I have never seen the cap, canister, or filter have any sludge.

People don't realize what a good oil SuperTech is. It's produced by Warren Distribution. They also make Amazon Basics and Meijer's house brand oil....among others.

My FIL's '04 Sienna and '03 Dakota have lived almost exclusively on ST nearly their entire lives. Originally it was ST conventional. About 4 years ago I made the switch to ST High Mileage synthetic. Neither vehicle consumes any oil and both are well north of 100k miles. About 3 years ago I replaced the valve cover gaskets on the Dakota. The valve train and tops of the heads looked clean and perfect.

That's a complete pain in the ass to change! I don't miss that about my 1st 2 Tacos. I made a bigger mess out of those than I ever have with a cartridge filter :D

ST is great, it’s shown better virgin oil analysis than Mobil 1 regular at BITOG

Do you do a lot of short trip driving? I’ve seen that when the engine doesn’t run at max temp for extended periods. It need to run hot enough to evaporate condensation.

OP if you’re concerned, just wipe the “sludge” out of the canister. These threads are always a cluster of mixed opinions. Change the oil every 5-10k miles, change the filter, and drive the truck. You’ll be fine.

Yup. Warren has great stuff that works just fine in most passenger vehicles! The ST comes in at a great price point that even beats when Mobil 1 goes on sale at Costco. Just can’t beat it for the price and quality. Don’t tell it too loudly to the brand loyalists though. It’ll turn into “I ain’t gonna run that Walmart crap in my super picky Toyota Tacoma!”

Supertech (Warren Oil) and Pure One FTW! My 13 Taco doesn’t have the cartridge but my 4R does and I always clean it out real good with parts cleaner during oil changes. I too think Toyota didn’t change the cartridge every oil change during the free 2 years, trust no one.

I wouldn’t put a Fram on my riding mower, they aren’t made of much.

If the dealership I went skipped replacing oil filter for quick service since new that’s what happened. It was the third oil change at 27k when I posted the previous pictures.

I agree that's why I skip the visual and smell test and jump straight to taste test.

In my free maintenance records they said tire rotations were done every 5k. But when I started rotating tires myself around 28k all wheels were stuck and I had to kick hard to get them off. Not much heavy snow in my area. Wonder if they really did rotations.

Since I discovered the problem a few months ago I did oil change myself for my two trucks. Changed oil again after 6k the oil looked very clean so I think the problem is solved. Oil test probably cost more than a DIY oil change ...

I run Castrol high mileage full synthetic with a Mobile 1 filter in my 2011 tacoma. Got 127 ,000 +. Change oil around 8,000. Oil still a long way from looking dirty when I change. I'm guessing that there's not a lot of difference in most premium brand oils but filters maybe ?

I used to think that until I realized that the Fram Ultra Synthetic filter is actually one of the best filters you can buy after hanging out on BITOG site. Excellent product. I routinely run one on my Taco

So, I'm actually a tech at a dealership and after doing literally thousands of oil changes over a ten year career. I can say, that cap and filter look like every single Toyota canister filter I've ever changed. I honestly had trouble determining what you problem was from the pictures because it is that normal. Making mountains out of mole hills my man.
