I don't know about 2nd gens, but if you cut the bend out of the retaining brackets/bars you can fit a 33" tire in the spare location on a 1st gen

I’ve got a bracket that secured it upright at the very front of the bed:

    Works for me.

I run my full size spare in my factory location on my second gen too. Just need to trim the ears off.

My pics from earlier in this thread...

    Touché! :duel:

Exhaust. I forgot about the damn exhaust:facepalm:. The bigger tire easily clears the diff, no problem there at all. But I run with an exhaust reroute and tail pipe chop. Therefore I have no exhaust to be in the way. It may still fit. But I do recall removing the little rubber thingy that held the exhaust to make it easier to get the spare in there. It may fit with the exhaust. It may not. I bet not.

Anybody else do this with the unadulterated tail pipe?

They're on.. The ride fantastic, them coupled with the 6112/5160 combo is great for DD use.

Some observations. I've ran Nittos, BFGs, Coopers and Falkens now. Switching from Nittos, which in my opinion are true to size, these Coopers seem to be on the smaller size. I've ran 295/70r17 Trail Grapplers and they were nearly as big as a 315 K02.

They're light, my old combo was ~ 83-84lbs, the new ones are 78-79. Im guessing that loss of 5-6lbs is why the truck feels like it still accelerates like normal. No power complaints here.

Also, I remolded the bump on the cab side of the fender, got a CMC and trimed the bottom edge of the flare, no rub on the street. All of these actions were necessary to fit. Im running 16x8 0 offset, so very mild wheels, any more aggressive and more work would be guaranteed.

Anyway, here they are, 295s with Dakar 96r and 6112 w/1/4" top spacer for ~ 2.5" lift.
The tire shots are compared to a 265/70r17 RG on 8.5" wheels, the Coopers are clearly taller, but almost the same width, despite the 30mm label difference.

Oh yeah and clearance with the trimming.

I know they're brand new, but still, they're silent. Crazy quiet. Also, they dont feel like an E load, very nice comfortable ride.

can you clarify for me... RG's are 265/70/17 and the xlt's are 295/75/16? how did you ditch 5-6 pounds per corner? the RG's are like 55 pounds and the new coops are 59 right? were the 17" wheels really 9-10 pounds heavier than your new wheel set up?

    looks great btw.

Yep, RGs 54lbs, XLTs 57lbs. FX 16s are 21lbs, the old FN Overlanders were 29lbs.

I liked the Overlanders since theyre a 17" remake of the TRD wheel, but theyre heavy. The truck feels better, even though the tires are larger.

Finally finished my bumper painting and fender flare-less mod. She looks so good now! Makes my 295s on the SCA F5s poke even more.

Next step trimming an inch off the fenders and making custom wheel well liners...
