2019 Formula 1 Season Paddock

I have the feeling that Alonso may have charred another bridge. Not necessarily burnt to the ground but it might not safe to recross.

 

I thought so too but it was actually McLaren who dropped Alonso as their F1 test driver. That story was taken and turned into Alonso and McLaren splitting in Indycar.

 

Alonso is only a McLaren "ambassador" , no driving projects planned or announced

 

Just saw the race -- we were away on vacation. Wow. Two McLarens in the points again, w00t! And again they embarrassed the Renault factory team. The Fernando curse seems well and truly lifted. Kimi comported himself quite well too. I think Bottas may have sealed his fate with the Mercedes team with that drive, pretty sad to watch.

I think the race was lost for Red Bull after HAM's first pit stop, when he left the pits with a 6-second deficit to fishlips but had it down to 1-2 seconds within, what was it, 2 laps? Either somebody was sleeping at the switch on the Red Bull pit wall, or else Lewis had stupendous pace. He made up 1.8 seconds to Max on his out lap! If Verstappen had kept a 5- or 6-second gap he could have covered the second pit stop by Hamilton. If it was pace from Hamilton then it was a masterful win and well deserved. If it was a flub by Red Bull strategists, well, they don't make very many but this one was costly.

I told my wife during the last race that Gasly wouldn’t be on Red Bull after the break, was hoping for Albon. Been impressed by him this season.

 

Me either, really. I understand why KVY didnt go to RB, VER would want none of that, due to their past...i guess they figure he’s young, will drive better than GAS, and will be okay with playing 2nd fiddle to VER if it comes to that.

 

I think of the rookie F1 driver's this season he's done a great job. Several hard charging passes and keeping out of trouble. That being said, I think Norris is better

 

Agreed, i dont see either mclaren drivers going anywhere soon; They are starting something good there.

 

I, like Red Bull have little patience and want to see results. I hope to see that from Albon. He sounds like Professor Brian Cox when he speaks. Very polite and mature. I think with a better car his performance will improve. He did pretty good in the wet for never having raced in it.

 

Moral of the story is you can never believe a word Helmut Marko ever says

 

Is there any chance there is a hidden flaw with the Gasley car itself? If so Albon may do no better.

 

Of course not! Each of the team's cars are all the same.

 

Correct on Marko. There's only one way to go into the Red Bull team and that's as a massive, young, talent. Anything else is career suicide.

 

Now let's see if there is a shake down at Mercedes.

 

I think Ocon will replace Bottas , then Hulkenberg to Haas then Bottas to Renault

 

This makes sense but bottas is winning

 

Exactly, they need a Hamilton support driver

 

They need a successor who can challenge/beat Hamilton consistently and carry the Merc flag. Bottas's biggest downfall is being consistent. If he doesn't finish the season in 2nd I think Merc will drop him.

 

Its got nothing to do with Bottas , Toto Wolff is Esteban Ocon's agent
