Lol, dang. You should try sliding some kind of table next to the truck that you can lay on your stomache and work over it so you are not bent over the side for an hour or two.

 

That's the part I'm not looking forward to. But the truck doesn't run and won't move and is caught at the bottom of the driveway at an angle haha

 

You can do better than that. Aren't you proficient with tow straps and winches?

But dude. You need to hold on to a vehicle for a while. We know you can do it - I mean, the green truck is still around... or perhaps it's my axle seals going out that's got you worried.

 

I've used a deep 16mm socket with a piece or two of electrical tape on the inside to remove them when I didn't have my magnet handy.

That said I do about 45-55 a week. High mileage commute though really.

Even so. I couldn't really use a car that get good enough mileage to justify the cost of buying another car and selling one and getting something that gets 35-45mpg.

No way a new lease and the minimal mpg increase you'll get from that offsets..

What did the lease cost you a month? What did you have to put down? What MPG does your current 4runner get and how many miles do you drive daily?

 

I was just pulling up numbers. Me alone I would save money by leasing a car to go along with the payment on my truck... especially the corolla at $100 a month or whatever it is now.

 

Yeah, you are saving a ton of coin. Especially with your 4runner paid off. Now, don't go over the mileage limit on the lease or you'll be paying for it more than you want to.

I am already at 15k on the Tundra I just bought in February. At $100 a fill up, and one nearly every 6-8 days, it kills the wallet. I would save roughly $300 a month with a lease of a fuel efficient vehicle.

 

So, I just noticed something that I found interesting. This photo really shows frame flex by comparing the bed lines to the cab lines. Obviously an extreme from a wheel position, but it's several inches of flex between the bed and cab. And this is with rear frame reinforcement (which I guess is all under the bed, so not really in play here).

You can see it at the bottom of the bed/cab, and the 2" wide rubber door trim protector stuff - which is completely offset.

Some is the frame for sure. The bed half flexes a ton. The other is the body bushings though. It's a combination of both.

Boxing the frame helps and additional cross members. You've done frame reinforcement so you're helping already

 

I never understood leasing. At least with buying you have value when you want to sell or trade in. With leasing you got nothing. Just give it back if you haven't exceeded the max mileage in the lease.

 

It's just like renting out a new house basically. You find someone to take care of it and the value it loses as a new vehicle leaving the lot and then when the time comes it comes back to the lot as a premium used vehicle (much easier to sell to someone than a new vehicle for obvious reasons) and the dealer has made even more money than from a purchase when the process is complete. Except it usually leaves three people happy in the process. The non committal lease "buyer", the dealers pocketbook in the end and the finance guy basically foams at the mouth over these, and the guy who gets the real deal and buys it off the used lot.
