All, I made a formal complaint to Toyota last week re: my 2018 Tacoma Limited Edition 4x4 and they responded promptly, assigned me a case number and I spoke again with them yesterday and they said they were passing me upward to higher authorities. Could be all smoke and mirrors but we just may have a chance at some resolution if we flood them with complaints. Just an FYI. Another thought is if there are avenues for getting some type of legal rep for a potential class action or even Toyota omsbudsman to take this up if there is such an animal. From all that I have read here and elsewhere there are definitely issues with the tranny. FYI, also, I am not a mechanically inclined individual but have purchased many, many new vehicles and have never had such issuesScreen Shot 2019-08-13 at 11.14.19 AM.jpg Screen Shot 2019-08-13 at 11.14.19 AM.jpg Screen Shot 2019-08-13 at 11.14.29 AM.jpg as this without there being a recall.

You say nothing of what your feel is the issue. I'm not sure what you're looking for here.

They are a corporation so when you address them in writing they respond in writing since writing lends clarity and enforceability to any relationship. Also there is a big difference between a customer “concern or complaint” and a customer “claim”. Toyota can dismiss a concern or complaint but they cannot unilaterally dismiss a claim just so you know if you wish to file a claim against Toyota be sure to have a minimum of a 100k in cash on hand and good luck.

The Fanboys here love having to install a chip some guy designed to make the transmission shift at proper shift points common to cars built somewhat after 1940s here. So don’t expect any positive replies.

Those who think this is a good idea are either in the minority or already sold the truck.

After the latest TSB for the transmission, my truck feels great. It wasn't bad to begin with, but there was a noticeable difference after the TSB was applied.

The people that frequent this forum are the minority of the customer base. I'd say your reply has a negative tone. Cheers!

    Anywho... [back on topic]

Thanks for the input, good, critical or otherwise. I have found a few posts on here that describe my problem exactly and it is that the tranny just doesn't seem to be able to find the right gear. Has not from the beginning. In relation to that also, i travel some of the same semi flat highways that have a rise/fall in them every so many miles and sometimes the truck gears up at least one and sometimes two and other times it it remains in the same gear around 2000 RPM at the same place in the highway. Granted, this is usually in cruise control so maybe that is the issue. I just know Ive never had a vehicle that could not consistently find the gear it should be in. And the posts are not just from here but other places on the web if you google.FYI, My nephew has a 2016 TRD and it shifts smooth as silk.

Have you had T-SB-0058-18 or T-SB-0062-18 applied to your truck? If not, you should...

Realistically, we should just schedule a day or week where everyone calls in. Possible even try calling NHTSA with complaints nonstop. Its crap when one day the throttle response is fine and next day it has the longest lag ever. Almost got in an accident because the "tuning" is always changing and don't know what side of the bed truck woke up in the morning.

Contacting Toyota won’t do a damn bit of good. I have twice. I was extremely nice and voiced my concerns with the transmission. Twice. Got me no where.

This made a HUGE difference in how my truck drives/shifts . I would def get this done . Pretty straight forward procedure. Way less drama than going corporate

Have you driven your nephews truck on the same route? Running with the cruise on does affect the down shifting on these trucks.

they receive complaints with detail like that every day. ask me how i know.

if they find the issue valid they will create a report. they did that for my DSG programming issue that made me "almost get into an accident" like you and it was a valid complaint regarding safety... this was back in 2008. so, after about 5-6 months the report was finalized and they sent me a copy, all 75pages of it. and that was it. done. the 75page report did not magically change my DSG code, go figure.

so i bought an aftermarket tune. fixed.
