Blistein 4600 Shocks, Which Front Coil Springs?

Hey Guys,

I have another thread for my suspension related questions, but I need to get these repairs done to my truck ASAP, so I wanted to create a more direct question.

I am having difficulty finding which coil spring to pair with the Blistein 4600 shocks. I have seen that the coil springs are divided up by the standard coil spring and the TRD Offroad package coil springs. There is a difference in spring rate and height.

For example:

I was under the impression that the TRD Blistein Offroad OEM shocks were similar to the 4600s.

I emailed Blistein and they said use the OEM springs.

Can anyone provide insight on this?

Are you positive link you provided are the same as trd springs? I was under the impression the trd springs were variable spring rate. i.e. lower spring rate first 1 or 2 inches then higher spring rate further down. The one you provided is a constant spring rate. And 595 seems a little high for stock. Thought it was closer to 490.

Buy yah, the 4600 is a direct replacement to the stock shocks. I'd run the Old Man Emu 2880 spring (500 spring rate) with the 4600 shock.

e/ yea the stock spring rate is nowhere near 590 that is way too high. That's where the OME 883 coil runs and people only run this coil with added weight from steel bumpers and winches

Thats what Rockauto had listed. I'm not sure whats right or wrong to be honest. My truck is an SR5 and I haven't replaced the shocks or coils since I've owned them.

 

90% sure 590 is way too much for stock, maybe someone else can chime in

 

they probably have exclusive sales with moog, and that's their most comparable coil. I would verify this elsewhere. Check old man emu website and put in truck info

 

The 2880 on the specs says that it provides 1.5" of lift. I'm still looking to maintain stock height, although the OME kit has caught my eye. It maybe $200 more than what I was looking at.

 

I believe it’s 0 - 1.5” lift
Both sides of the window are at the extreme cases. And ome claims that to cover their ass ofc

You would be stoked with the performance of that setup though
e/ and it’s a spring so it wears down over time and your lift changes

Maybe 1” right when you ge the coils then it’ll settle to 0.5” maybe

 

I'm questioning if the Blistein/OEM route is the way to go anymore. Adding up all the parts it ended up being $1100, shipped just about...

I'm going to have to see which coil springs fit the Blisteins first and go from there.

 

with 4600's you need to stick to stock height. And no, the 4600's are not the same as the original bilstein TRD shocks. The 4600's have a larger diameter.

For ~$1200 you can get a FULL set of OME springs, and shocks. If you want to keep your 4600s, just get the stock height coils form MOOG and be done with it. It's pretty silly that Rockauto distinguishes between the 4x4/pre-runner TRD and non-TRD springs. They are 100% interchangeable.

 

I wasn't sure if the 4600s were the same as the OEM TRD shocks. I have an SR5, so I have whatever those shocks are.

Thats what I thought about the coils to be honest, I thought it was odd because I was always under the impression the TRD Offroad only difference was the shocks not the coils.

I was looking at the Wheelers Offroad kit, seems like a good deal with everything that is included. I just wish shipping was a little less steep (A little over $300 for where I live.)

Looks like I have some decisions to make...

 

I would stay away from an OME lift kit but that's just me. The shocks and coils are fine but the dakar leafs will crank your rear up 3+ inches
They're sort of made with the idea you'll be using some overlanding equipment for added weight

If i were to lift again I'd do the following

4x Bilstein 5100 + OME 2881 at stock height
General HD rear leafs

My current is 4x bilstein 5100 with OME 2880 at 2nd notch
Add a leaf in the rear

I paid under 500 for all of it
I got a dead even 2" lift in front and rear

 

My idea for keeping it stock was 4600s all around, MOOG Coils, redo the LBJs, and General HD leafs. I have the light duty leafs from General now, and ones cracked, more than likely because my current shocks are original... I sent them an email and they said that the HD leafs would work just fine with stock shocks.

Thus why I am looking at doing all this work.

*I bought the standard duty General Springs leafs back in January along with four 4600 shocks, like you I thought I just wanted to maintain stock height.
And just last week I replaced the like-new 4600 shocks with 5100s, OME 881 coils, and added the Wheelers 3-leaf progressive add-a-leaf. With the HD leafs your rear won't be quite as high as mine, but it'll be noticeably higher than stock. The 5100/OME 881 combo with struts set at 0" will be perfect.

If you don't mind me asking, where did you get your 5100s and Coils?

Essentially if i want to keep stock height i'd have to go with the light duty springs.

 

Sounds to me like you got the D43XL leaf with your Dakars. The Dakars only give like 2.25" lift.

I bought my coils through 4WP because they offered me a 15% off code. And because I needed (wanted) them in time for a trip, and they have a location near me that I was able to ship them to and pickup in time to install them for the trip.

I bought the shocks through Wheelers since I was already ordering their 3-leaf progressive AAL. It was only supposed to give 1.5" lift, and I left the overload leaf in place so that should have given me 2.0", but I ended up with 4" in the rear lol, which has now settled to 3.5"

 

I’m in the same boat as the OP and this pic makes me want to go 5100 and screw the stock set up

 

Seriously. My only hesitation is I don't really need a lift, so why spend the money?
