They're basing it on just Q2 sales.

Oh ok that makes a little more sense, kinds like the Browns or Bengals outscoring their opponent in a quarter but still getting blown out 49-10 in the final score that counts.

Well, I suppose it would be similar if the Browns or Bengals were coming out of retirement, just jumping into a game without warming up, after the game already started, and the other team was nicely warmed up. I think the point of the article is that Ranger sales more than doubled from Q1 to Q2, and it's already outselling a truck that has an established market share.

The Rangers are being sold almost as fast as they can build them. The same was true for the Colorado at first.

Just admit it guys, some people don't want a Tacoma lol.

I spoke to a Ford salesman recently while checking out a ‘19 Raptor. He claims they aren’t moving because Ford does not have any large incentives on them. He said if Ford ran a $299 lease deal with $1500 down they would fly off the lot. Potential buyers are interested but the current pricing is driving them away.

Ford has a massive problem if they can only build 30,000 Rangers in 8 months...

The write up in Gear Patrol is pretty damming:

"Midsize pickups have been America’s hottest vehicle segment that doesn’t offer third-row functionality. Jeep entered with the Gladiator. Ram also has plans to get back in the game. Even Volkswagen is dipping its toes into the U.S. market to gauge interest. With that context, Ford reviving the Ranger felt like an obvious move. But judging from early sales figures, the launch has not been so successful. Ford bragged earlier this year about plants working “massive overtime” to build Rangers and more than 300,000 expressions of interest online. That purported interest, however, has not materialized into actual vehicle sales, with Ford selling just 20,880 Rangers through the second quarter of 2019. For perspective, Nissan sold 39,322 Frontiers over that span. The Frontier, infamously, is anything but new — the second generation has been in production since 2004."

That said, to be fair, I saw my first Ranger in New York the other day and I have to say it looked very sharp. Nice looking truck. It may not be to everyone's taste but Ford does have a good design group and on the Ranger it shows.

But maybe that is just me. I am not dogmatic about these things. Is it okay to like them both? :)

By the way, can we all agree on one thing -- how stupid Nissan is? I mean really. With just a little effort they could really improve their business in this segment but they don't even appear to be trying.

Ford will sell more Rangers than Jeep will sell Gladiators. The Gladiator is looking more like a transition vehicle. FCA wants to get Jeep buyers into Ram Trucks.

You may be right about Ford selling more Rangers than Jeep sells Gladiators. I would assume so since the Ranger is more of a volume play (at least it should be) and the Gladiator is more of a niche vehicle. But I think Jeep understands that.

    Look at this: https://www.autoblog.com/2019/06/18/jeep-gladiator-sales-average-price/

"If this past May is any indication of future sales, the Gladiator truck is going to make Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) some decent coin. In its first full month on sale, the new Jeep pickup went home with more than 2,500 customers at an average transaction price of more than $56,000. It's too early to call the Wrangler with a bed a success or failure, but a second piece of information hints at a positive outlook: According to Cox, the average transaction price was $56,403. That's massive for a midsize pickup."

I saw a few already on the road. Nice looking. Not sure I would buy one but I understand the appeal. But I feel that way about Jeeps overall.

I drove behind one for two hours and a few things drove me loopy.
Aesthetically, the super tall bedsides look out of proportion for the width of the bed. The short cab height to bedside height looks ugly. The spare is angled and not centered to the hitch.
It did out accelerate me on the highway.

Sheesh, that's more entertainment than review.

The music is loud and very obtrusive.
No mention of their criteria, and yet so very self-important about their "system".
    Subjective, squishy verbiage.
They look like what they are, writers who happened to get jobs reviewing trucks.
Growing beards don't make them relatable "truck guys", or not like any I know.
But hey, I live in the hinterland and have driven trucks all my adult life, and am most definitely not cool.
    Ugh.
Sorry, the whole thing rubs me wrong.
    They're salesmen, not reviewers.

They care it’s sarcasm... but this rollout is only a dipping of the toe so to speak, the real new Ranger will come out alongside the return of the Bronco.

Except the article is wrong. The 20k rangers is their Q2 sales, and the 39k Frontiers is their year to date sales. Nissan sold 1k fewer Frontiers than the rangers in Q2. The ranger only sold 9k in Q1 vs the 20k frontiers in Q1, which is why the YTD figure still has the ranger behind the Nissan.

That's not much of an incentive, and it only applies to purchase. The lease options are still absolutely abysmal.
