I have run the 285's on both my last trucks, a 2006 Frontier and now the 17 Taco. Love them. I honestly don't notice any negative effects on road or off. And they look fantastic.20190812_165543_HDR.jpg

I had 285 75s on my 3rd gen 4runner which is only 190hp and never felt under power on the roads, 3rd gen tacos should have no issues power wise w 278hp.
My 93 landcruiser was on 315s, still drove fine, a bit under power but not too much to regret it.

I'm out of the country for a few weeks right now but when I get back I'm pulling the trigger on 285 Nitto TGs.

265 tires I have now are 42lbs, the 285s are 46lbs so the weight shouldnt be a big factor, rolling resistance might drop a mile or two per gallon I guess if my driving characteristics are the same.

I'm averaging 20 -21 mpg per tank over the last 3 yrs.

If I dont like them I can always go back to 265s but then I'll know for sure if made the right choice.

Any more updates? I’m getting serious about upgrading tires on my pro, so have been looking at mine closing and don’t see how I could fit 285/75 or even 255/85s..maybe w/ an adjustable UCA, but that’s more $$ I don’t want to spend right now...

Once installed I'll update this thread.

285/70/17 Nitto Terra Grapplers. I have those tires in a 265/70/17 on the truck now and have been very happy with them. The increase in size bumps me from 42lbs per corner to 46lbs per corner.

I don't need giant tires and the headaches that go with them.

Jason, I have seen a few now, 285/70/17 on the SEMA wheels and both didn't run not need a CMC. One had the front mud guards didn't require trimming, the other no mud guards. Do you think your going to rub, did you get the CMC done yet, if so who did it? I think you said but I forgot.

Did you ask the owners of those trucks if they rub off-road?

Yes I asked both and drove one. I have driven the shops truck with 285s last year and now this one. The two trucks I looked at both owners said no CMC was needed. The one I drove didn't feel bad but when I drove mine afterwards there is a pretty noticable difference in low end power.

Yes I had it done, Pungo Offroad did it and welded new plates I provided for $100.

For that price I almost couldnt say no.

Now I know I wont rub.
