CSF All Aluminum Performance Radiator For our trucks FINALLY!!!

Didn't think I needed to since it was the Tacoma specific rad and not the FJ rad.

 

Took me about an hour to reinstall the fan clutch/fan, shroud, and rad.

 

The 7082 is significantly thicker than the stock or CSF FJ versions so I'd think that's why it pushes everything back.

As far as the cover: can you ovalize/grind out the stock holes to get the bolts tightened down? I doubt that it would come loose if the bolts are tightened down enough.

 

Looks like @mightytacoman recently installed the Tacoma specific CSF.

 

Hmm, this doesn't look good. That cover forces air to go through the radiator at speed instead of over the top of it right? Meaning it isn't just cosmetic. This radiator is thicker, but was advertised as drop-in. Does it make sense that we should have to trim the shroud down? wouldn't that also trim off some of the mounting points of it? I'm not staring at one in person right now, but from a picture like below I would think that making the shroud thinner to account for the added thickness of the radiator is not trivial.



Should there be some contact with CSF to discuss this?

 

Trimming the shroud would be difficult. As it stands its not n contact with the rad when screwed in using the stock mounting locations.





The work around = zip ties

 

Well damn. I didn’t not even realize it was tacoma specific. Ordered the FJ fan shroud and bottle. Damn.

 

The 7082 rad is the Tacoma specific
The 7076 rad is the FJ one that will work on the Tacoma with the FJ shroud and bottle and then also bending the transmission cooler line bracket down out of the way to accommodate the extra height of the FJ rad

 

Yah I figured now. Damn completely missed that.

 

I know that top plate is all clips. can you utilize the rear clips as is, and redrill the underlying steel radiator support for new clip location on the front side? Not sure how close anything is under that steel, would have to figure out a way to not damage anything when the bit punches through...

 

Possible maybe but I am good with my zip-tie solution for now.

Used the clips on the top and then zip-tied the top plate to the fan shroud through the existing holes.

 

I ask for selfish reasons... trying to figure out how I want to handle hurdles...

 

Aside from the thickness of verything else was reused from the Tacoma?

Yep everything else was reused.

I put the fan clutch/fan and shroud in first.
Then put the radiator in. I left the blue plastic protection on while putting it in and then after everything was in and the 4 bolts were started I removed the plastic and tightened everything down.

 

No bueno! I want the CSF radiator, but am less interested if things don't line-up with it. Is that normal?!?

 

Got my goodies today but may be awhile before I install

 

This is the only thing I had an issue with in regards to the Tacoma specific CSF rad.

The FJ Rad is thinner but longer and I think that one lines up properly.

However it wasn't such a big deal that it would stop me from running the rad and the zip ties work for me.

Not building a show truck.

 

I have the Fj one.....it’s all that was available when a bunch of us first got them. That along with the Fj shroud and overflow. It all works and lines up fine

 

I have the FJ one with corresponding fan shroud. It’s just a little off but not enough to miss the clips or be noticeable by the untrained eye. Since installing my new afe intake I can’t tell there is even a shiny radiator underneath.

 

For that kind of money, those welds look like shit.
