Hello, newb to mods on a Taco..2nd Gen SR5 4x4. (2014)

    Newb to this forum, not the web.
    Hello all, This is my second Tacoma and I had a Gen1 4runner back in the day...I bought a 2016 2 wheel drive Tacoma last year..last month some cell phoner came into my lane and totaled it..did some planning with the better half and went with a late model 2nd Gen 4x4 to mod for some mild overlanding with the family.
    We have a Grand Canyon trip planned for the fall...I would like to get as ready as the budget allows.
    The Truck I bought has some aftermarket shocks (I am going to do some in-depth research in this arena, because I don't know anything about the parts market.) maybe a small lift (its taller than the last one by quite a bit) and it has solid Cooper tires that are still fresh.
    I don't plan on pushing my luck first time out with the kids..so I just want to spend the initial chunk on expanding storage and camping. (starting in desert areas..maybe push north next year sometime, I'm in central Texas now)
    I do want some good bumpers at some point..just to dress it up mostly..but I know it's not a priority until I get serious about overlanding/ off-roading.
    I don't know where to start. so may products...I am a cry once kinda guy..I would like quality out of the gate. I don't mind compromising on price if it makes sense, but I like my gear to be reliable..and I am a gear nut with tools and can do any manner of work. (welding/ metal fab to carpentry) with tons of camping and hiking experience.
    I just need solid suggestions on what products to consider and what to avoid (I know ya'll get this a bunch, so any help is seriously appreciated)
