How to mount this tent?!?

I have a gazelle T4 tent (ground tent) and love it but it’s huge when folded up in the bag (68” long) so on our next trip I want to mount it in the bag to my crossbars.

They are kbvoodoo highrise crossbars.

Iv been toying with bungee cords, tie down and ratchet straps but still can’t figure out a good way to mount the tent to the crossbars. The bars have holes in them so I can pass s strap through them but idk.

Anyone have any ideas?

 

Bolts and small metal bars spaced on either side to "clamp" it down?

 

Maybe that’s the direction I should take instead of straps. I want it to be easy on easy off and secure for the highway

 

Use wing nuts then. That would definitely be secure and shouldn't take too long to un-mount.

Dang. I was looking at getting this for my next ground tent. It doesn't fit in the bed? Diagonally?

 

id toss that in the bed so it wont block your view

 

Quick fist makes ratcheting mounts that they say work up to 8" diameter. If the tent can't fit that, that would be a clean alternative.

 

Use Kayak straps - DaKine makes them among many others.. Easy to use, strong, economical. That kayak is 15' and 91 lbs.

 

I have the same plan! I will be ordering mobtown bed bars most likely and doing the same thing. I have the T4 and while it does fit diagonally it really ruins the space in the bed making it hard to pack. I personally was planning on just utilizing the grab straps to secure it to the bars, but I haven't gotten the bars yet to test how secure that would be.

Yes it does but it takes up space I need for supplies. That’s why I decided to put it on the bars

 

And may I ad absolutely bad ass tent! Best iv ever owned and it legit sets up in 30 seconds

 

It’s a great set up overtop the bars. I emailed gazelle and they told me the bag for the tent is waterproof too! I have a tri fold cover too that goes under the bars so I can keep supplies dry and then put the tent, maxtracs, shovel ext on the bars.

 

Yep, thats why I bought this tent, best ground tent out there. I have the factory cover as well so we have a similar setup. I probably wont pick up the bars for a few months so please do report back on what you end up doing to secure it!

Excellent, good luck! I have until our next trip in Oct to decide on the bars and how to mount them. But I'm pretty set on the mobtown ones, with kbvoodoo being my second choice.
