What logic? What reasoning behind video games? That maybe one day you get to be the Fortnite champion and get swatted on? Gee whiz...

And you can stay in your mindset as well. Nobody told you that you were wrong. Just wait til you have kids, that's all and you'll see things through a very different light.

Evidently I touched a nerve on this one! :annoyed:

    I'm 42. I like video games.

Great way to interact with folks that live 10+ hours away that you don't get to see anymore. It's like your talking on the phone and shooting bad guys at the same time. I don't play if it's daylight though. Not usually.

2 different views, from 2 different generations and that's what it boils down to. So @stronghammer, if I upset you, then I apologize.

I have nothing against tech. I'm just not OK with my kids playing video games all day Sat and all day Sun, when their mom and I are out cutting grass, cleaning the garage, washing clothes, cleaning up the house, etc. I like tech, my job involves very high tech equipment, that your average citizen has never seen. That's not the point. I don't ban my kids from video games, I just monitor it to 1-2 hours a day. And if I'm a bad parent for doing that, then so be it, I'll continue to be a bad parent. I'm proud that I'm raising my kids to be self-sufficient, that's all.

I just hope @stronghammer is not mad at me, because I'm not mad at him! We can always agree to disagree without emotion involved. Healthy debate is good for the soul and keeps the mind sharp! lol I should have stopped when he said, "I hate talking about video games". lol Do you forgive me @stronghammer?

Kids change everything, and to say that they don't, just means that you don't have any kids...:D

As a parent of 2 young ones let me say that striking a balance with screen time is always a work in progress. I don't think that either of you are 100% correct here. We treat technology different for each kid b/c our kids see access to technology differently. I consider my kids way smarter than I was when I was their ages due to access to the kinds of technology they use at school and what we allow them to watch at home. My son loves to play video games with his friends to be social, while my daughter likes to sing and dance with her friends. Also our parenting view of technology usage changes as the kids get older, but they are still close to our beliefs from before we had kids.

Nope, I gave up on it. It's copyrighted by A&E and I'll just leave it at that! If you have Chrome, you can watch it.

Honestly I've spend hours in front of a screen before as a child and a lot of high school and college, but I also got all of my crap done.

You can sit in front of a video game for hours and still turn out okay.

lol yeah I had a meeting out on the factory floor at 9.

I've got no issues with you Jonny lol. Text may portray it differently, but I don't really get emotional.

I see people saying I'm not 100% correct, and I disagree.

I never said play video games all the time, or that video games are the best thing ever. I never gave them the ultimatum.

Jonny is seemingly taking me saying video games are ok as meaning to let your kids play them all day every day, and I don't mean that at all. That's the exact issue I have with the older generations.

To say video games don't have benefits like quick thinking and decision making, but that boxing does is just ridiculous. They BOTH do. I never said anything to discredit what others think or do, especially with their kids, but I did say BALANCE. I never said let em play video games all the time. I never said don't teach them outdoor stuff or other things.

Just because you don't like or agree with something, does not make it wrong or invaluable. EVERYTHING has its place, but yes I do believe the older generation needs to learn and admit when they don't know everything about subjects that maybe the younger generations actually do. And vise versa.

Example: Older generations CONTINUE to blame millennials for everything. Guess what? Millennials end in 1995. Thus begins centennials, or whatever else name. Older generations still call 16 year olds millennials, and even after being corrected, do not change their terminology. That's an example of the issue.

Just to be clear, I'm on board with technology, that wasn't the debate. The debate was letting your kids play video games for as many hours as they want without any repercussions, when there's shit to be done around the house. I'll be damned if my wife and I are the only ones doing chores around the house! There's 10 hands in this house, that means 10 hands are going to pitch in when time comes. The adults will do the hard stuff and the kids will do the easy stuff. I'm in a different boat as you. My kids don't know as much as their mom and I did at their same age, so we teach them. I've just seen too many parents not spend any time with their kids or teach them skills/values and just throw their kids an I-pad or video game just to get them out of their hair.

you misunderstood the debate then. I never said let kids play video games for as many hours as they want without any repercussions.

you said video games should be avoided, at seemingly all costs. that's the debate.

Not at all costs, read my posts, we both agreed on balance. My kids? 1-2 hours a day and that's ONLY if their chores are done.

you never once mentioned that your kids play video games, you implied they aren't allowed to and only allowed to do what you consider meaningful things.

you then called all of the younger generational less educated, or that they know less, simply because you think they should know things that maybe you knew then.

you literally only insulted video games, called them pointless, said they have 0 benefit, and said that I would never understand until I have kids.

your balance did not seemingly include video games at all.
