I thought I was cruising along fine at 3-1/2 years on my 2016, and I can't remember the last time I've had to replace a battery in the last 30+ years (this is my first Toyota), but one morning a couple weeks ago... "click click click"

I then bought an Autocraft Platinum AGM to replace it.

Did you all know that most batteries come from only two different manufacturers?

I have the exact same truck. I bought an AGM. I don't think it matters who makes it because I discovered most batteries come from only two manufacturers. They just get labeled/packaged differently.

https://4xspower.com/shop/product-category/super-banks/ Although you can find it for about $450 on a m a z o n. Note group size doesn't affect capacity, only fitment. I got smallest footprint one. Group51. All have same capacity, well, there are others with more capacity for more money but no need.

    Dakota Lithium 12v 7Ah Battery
Small batt https://dakotalithium.com/product/dakota-lithium-12v-7ah-battery-69/?v=7516fd43adaa Can get for $55 ea in the 2x package deal. No cheaper on a m a z o n. Much larger capacities also available for mega $$.

Im not associated with either company, just did a lot of research to find what i was looking for.

I'm here in NH and three winters later (bought December 2016), I am still on my OEM battery without any issues. Truck has never been garaged, battery is in great condition :notsure:

I live in northeast Ohio, we get cold winters, my Toyota battery is still in there from 2/2013, so it’s about 6.5 years old. I’m pretty happy with that....approaching the 84 month mark....

My OEM battery quit right at 3 years, since then I only use Interstate batteries. They seem to last.

I always laugh when people post mileage in a battery thread. It has absolutely no bearing on battery life.

In an case, heat and cold are the two biggest battery killers and in Fla we get plenty of the heat part. Two years on an OEM battery that is not a made in Japan OE Panasonic is typical. Replacement batteries should last longer since most replacement manufactures make a north and a south battery. Obviously the southern batteries are designed to deal with heat better. I would never buy a replacement battery from a dealer. I stick with batteries made by Johnson Controls which makes Interstate and most DieHard brands. The top end Walmart Battery is made by JC. As much as I hate Walmart, it is a good battery and Walmart is easy with warranty claims.

The battery in my 2017 was bad from the factory. Had it replaced a couple days after I took it home. It was a 36 month battery. The new one they put in was either a 72 or 84 month prorated warranty, can't recall which.

My 2009 taco battery lasted about 6 years.

It's in the owners manual, if it happens to fail when the Dealer is closed or in an emergency you can buy a new battery and mail the receipt to Toyota and you will get reimbursed for it.

Yep, they told me no need for a receipt the date on your battery is enough. bring it in and they will swap it out.

Yeah there's a few things they need like vin receipt and I think proof of purchase date of the truck and proof the battery failed. They paid me the full 350$ for the X2 battery. I was surprised, I thought I'd get capped at like 180.

The OE battery in my 2010 lasted almost nine years before it died last summer. It gave me a little bit of a warning with a slow crank the day before it failed but I was lazy and ignored it.

I replaced it with Duracell battery from my local BatteriesPlus. It was the best deal in town and I believe they are made by Deka.

I must be one of the lucky ones because I am STILL running the stock battery and I have had the truck since April 2016. I also have a bunch of added lighting (+200watts). Good info though

Can you really just replace the factory battery with an AGM one? I think AGM batteries want a higher charging voltage than the Taco regulator is limiting it to. Or are you modifying the alternator too?

You do realize that if it shorts out with the hood or chassis, you could have 1) damaged hood 2) a fire 3) an explosion 4) an insurance claim
