Official 2019 NCAA Football thread

I watched enough of his games to not buy into him making any tough throws. He hits guys in stride and has a cannon for an arm.

Two out of three good defenses he played, he was NOT good (UGA, CLEM). I’ll give ALA that they rolled up LSU. The rest of the schedule was not great, and everyone anticipated the ass beatings that were dished out.

All you need to do is watch those two games. He looked completely lost in both, with him being benched in one of them he was so bad. Credit goes to Kirby for blowing that game, too.

It’ll be interesting to see how Jimbo does at aTm this year for competition, and Auburn is always a toss (is Gus getting fired still or nah?). LSU is the only other big game on the schedule, so I expect him in NY again either way.

 

I can say I was watching utube videos and ran across one that covered the championship game and detailed how Clemson’s defense scheme turned Tua’s strength of knowing where his receiver will be and launching the ball so early against him- basically rolling from one defense to another AFTER receivers started their routes. He was exposed for not reading the defense after the ball was snapped, only pre-snap reads.

 

This is a pretty weak assessment. No disrespect. You're telling me a first year starter struggled against the two toughest defenses he faced. I'd expect that, considering they were two best defenses in the nation. I also think he tried to do entirely too much himself, forced throws and held on to the ball way too long. There were many situations where he could have thrown it away instead of forcing something to happen. Clemson's defense viewed that as desperation and blood in the water, so to speak and it absolutely motivated them. I credit Clemson's defense and the offensive game plan. They took the pressure off of Sunshine and he sat back and dismantled Alabama (the only defense they really faced all year.)

It will be interesting to see how he does this year, if he can stay healthy all year long (I'm looking at you O-line).

That's fair. I'm sure Saban and Sark have worked on a lot of that with him as well as his QB coach. Hopefully he comes out even stronger.

 

Just because you don’t like it doesn’t make it the truth. Lawrence played against very good Alabama and ND defenses and ruined them both as a true freshman starter. Tua had a year on him, even if behind Hurts, and looked silly.

You lost all credibility stating ND had a "very good defense". As a matter of fact, neither Alabama nor ND were even top 10 defenses.

Alabama was 16th.

ND wasnt even in the top 25. They were 30th.


Also, another interesting stat is that Clemson didnt even play the team with the top ranked defense in the ACC (Miami #4).

Alabama did.... (Miss St #1) Also for top 30 defenses Alabama played Georgia (13th) and LSU (25th) and then Clemson (#5). Thats four TOP 25 defenses Alabama faced.


Clemson only played one top 20 defense (Alabama) and 2 top 30 defenses. Both at the very end of the season. lol.

So having a top-30 isn’t good? I’d also wager playing them back to back in big games it’s easy to get up for is harder than cherry picking them randomly in your schedule.

Miss St’s ranking is bogus. They played no one and got beat or gave up significant points and yardage to any good team. Fresno, App State, UAB, Cinci, etc. are all in the top-15 as well. Gonna tell me about the merits of those lockdown defenses, too? It’s not weighted.

1) even money to schools w/o any to players
2) basically sponsored recruiting

Where’s the lie? Expectations at Texas are as ludicrous as Houston. Herman got some good faith with the bowl victory, but if he loses bad to LSU *and* OU, his seat will be on fire. Both of those scenarios are likely, too.
