Still on and kicking. I'll be moving in to my 3 car garage with a house attached next weekend. So after that I will finish up a few things on my Taco then go wheeling this summer. Might even take the 4Runner out this summer too if the trails aren't too bad.

Hey guys, seeing it says BS thread I thought it would be ok to throw this out there. I am trying to plan a trip to the Great state of Alaska summer of 2020. Just wife and I, kids are pretty well grown, first real trip without them. Very daunting task. Looking at places to stay, they are already pretty well booed up even this far out. Thinking end of July. Kind of laid out a tentative plan, starting in Anchorage, to Denali, down to Seward, Girdwood, back to Anchorage. Ten to twelve days. Thinking car rental for second half of trip. Start without car, take train to Denali. I know it's a long way off, but looks like have to plan this far out. Just thought I would throw this out to my TW brethren for any advice. Thanks

Since this is the travel thread... I will be in Juneau next week for a day. Coming in on a boat and do not want to do the stupid tour thing again. Looking for something to do that is not on the tour list, restaurants, etc. I will bring a jar of sunshine and leave a bunch of cash.

Driving to Seward and Girdwood is easily done in like 3 hours, Girdwood is along the way to Seward, if you're looking to really fill up your time in AK how many days are you thinking of actually spending in the state? Might help to give you some better advice !

Yeah, but they said since it was a couple months later and I'm not longer in state I should have mentioned it when I picked my truck up.

Now also looking at buying a (2 potentially) FZJ80 93-98 or Lexus LX450. Please PM me if you see any for sale up here.

One would potentially replace my truck, and my dad might be interested in one, or in a smaller rig like a Sidekick.

More than my wife knows about....
I have a few questions. I am moving to Anchorage, military PCS, in July from RI. Yes, I am going to drive up. I have a few things I want to upgrade/change on the truck. My first question is, How are the prices on bumpers, suspension and the like up there comparatively? Are there options interns of local shop/dealers for the popular brands, ie ARB, Rigid, etc? Im really wondering if i should do those upgrades in the next few months before We roll to save freight costs.

My wife's grandparents live in Kenai and we have visited many times, but only in the summer months. What do i need to prep for the transition to the VERY cold weather? engine block heater? Studded tires or are my KOs good enough? We get the cold days here in NE, but not the months on end. We are planning to only look at places to live that have heated garages......

Also, what are y'all using, CB, HAM or both?

I can't wait to meetup for some beers and talk trucks, trails and big game hunting/fishing! Or whatever you're into Im cool with whatever. Except, knitting, Im not into knitting.....HAhahaahhah

Random question from a longtime HVAC enthusiast/possible future HVAC tech who's never been to Alaska...

How many of you guys and gals from Alaska have central A/C in your homes? I've looked online and seen a few houses for sale in Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Juneau that have either central air or ductless mini-split systems; How often does it exceed 75°F in certain parts of Alaska?

If I moved to certain parts of Alaska and bought a house, I would probably put central air in not because it's necessarily needed, but because of my allergies and to control humidity; I don't know how bad pollen and other allergens can be in the more mild parts of Alaska, but I live in Pennsylvania and I'm sometimes forced to turn on the A/C in my house when it's 55-65°F outside because of my allergies. I also do not like humidity when I'm trying to sleep, so I'll shut my bedroom window and turn on the air if it's particularly humid, even if it's below 70°F outside.

If I were to build a new home in Alaska, anywhere south of the Yukon river, I'd most certainly put central A/C in it!

In Southcentral/Southeast it is not very common to have A/C. Most central air is heating only. Outside of last summer where we hit 90 a couple days, 75+ summer days are not exceptionally common. So I would say if you're looking to buy a house plan on adding A/C yourself instead of waiting to find a house that already has it.
