I have a 2016 tacoma with a KBvoodoo highrise bars, and a ARB simpson III RTT.. looking for a storage solution.. I do not have a garage, or a shed to store it in.. just wondering if anyone has any other ideas to store it.. short of finding a storage locker... I have a full basement, but only access is through the interior stairwell, and the standard metal bulkhead door... i do plan to build a garage, or move to a house with a garage in a few years.. I could build an outdoors box, and seal it up.. and just slide the tent into it under my deck??.... I just dont want critters getting into it, and destorying my $1400 tent..

Maybe pick up a cheap full size shell cap and seal the bottom with a platform out front. Then you could slide the tent in and out with ease and it is partially sealed.

Just leave it on the truck :notsure:

Mine has been exposed to the Utah elements for 3 years and is doing great with minimal care!

I currently have it sitting on the truck.. just looking for options.. dont think I'm doing any winter camping.. and i live in Maine.. so it will have to endure sun, wind, rain, snow, ice, hail (had 1/2" hail last saturday).. just thinking I may want to remove it in the winter.. unsure if it'll even fit down the bulkhead (easiest access to basement.. I can easily suspend it from the ceiling down there.. (looking to build a device for when i get/build my garage..) tent with bars probably weighs in at 170-180lbs.. that is minus the annex, and any bedding.. tant alone is 170lbs with the annex (easily 30lbs by itself)..

I'd like to keep the cover in good condition.. new ones can be had..... $150-170...

Would setting it on some cheap sawhorses work? I think elevating it off the ground would keep some critters out of it. You could also wrap a tarp over it for further protection.

Sell it and get a tent that’s not such a PITA? They make really good canvas spring bar tents for half the money of your RTT and it’s easily 3 times the quality. RTT’s suck unless you have it on a trailer, that has stabilizers, isn’t 7’ off the ground and you don’t have to put it up every time you want to drive anywhere while camping.

my rtt is super stable I can hear my leafs creak every once in a great while, but not a lot... especially on the hirise bars.. they dont make it high enough (about 5'10" on level ground) (I'm 6'3" 250lbs) to make it rock uncontrollably.. I like the RTT because it keeps me off the ground, it folds open in 5 minutes or so, and folds up in less than 10 minutes.. most 2-3 person tents are FAR more than that.. its only downside is that if you put away wet, you must open it up the next day or so to dry out (but you would do this with a ground tent as well).. other than the cost, which I am more than happy to pay for the comforts.. and yes I plan to build a trailer at some point to mount it on, just need the garage first..

Must be some real cutting edge technology in those

Let me guess. You have a canvas spring bar tent.

    "3 times the quality"

I too put quantitative numbers to qualitative values to sound more sciency.

Ever since I got divorced and lost the house I have been renting. None of the places had a garage. Best thing I ever bought in my whole life, portable garage:

I get it. Y’all are overland AF. SMH.
I’ve camped in about every tent style made, including RTT’s.
Besides Scott, all y’all did was throw smartass remarks with zero to back it up. Probably the same guys who have a RTT on their rig 365 days out of the year and use it less than 10 days a year.
The OP is trying to NOT be like y’all. I was giving him a very reasonable viable option and stated why. I’ve camped in every type tent imaginable. I’ve camped for combined days that add up to years, literally. I’ve been tent camping for 36 years, that I can remember. I offered a viable option but it wasn’t so everybody could see that you own a fucking RTT 24/7 so it wasn’t cool.
Having said all that, I have a springbar for ground camping and as soon as the weather cools, I’ll be dabbing brackets for a RTT to go on my trailer I built for, you guessed it, off roaring and CAMPING. Anyways, I’m out. Good luck OP. I hope you find the solution you’re seeking. image.jpg

Feel better? What a joker. Basically you have zero idea what you're taking about. But if you like to hear yourself talk, knock yourself out.

9* and full wind all night 160 miles to the closest town. Slept pretty well. Guys in tents and swags didn't.

Anything else you have to ramble about? Or do you actually have something Constructive to contribute in order to help OP? Child.

New England. That’s cute. My camping trips generally consist of covering more ground than that entire area. Come down to Texas and I’ll show you camping in wide open spaces. You’re tucked in trees, which isn’t a bad thing by any means and I’m envious of y’alls trees, so dim if you know what it’s like in a tent with 60mph winds. Trees tend to slow that way down below the tree canopy.

No idea what I’m talking about? Okay. Name ONE point I was incorrect about?

Forget my last post. We’ve gotten off topic and I want the OP to get a resolution. I’ll let you get in a pissing match with someone else on a different thread. I camp. You camp. Whatever. IDGAF.
Once again, good luck OP.
