Truck shut down

I was driving on the interstate and there was backed up traffic. The traffic was moving about 10 mph. When I got off of the exit where I was staying, my truck started squeaking under the hood and after that my acceleration wasn't working and my steering wheel and brakes stiffed up. Anybody kno wat this could be?

 

did it start back up again? will the engine even turn over or does the starter just make a clicking sound?

Are all the belts still on their pulleys? Im trying to figure out what the squeak was.

I have no idea. I bought the truck a year ago and since then have put 25000 miles on it. How much would it cost to change it?

Parts to do my Timing Belt...Water pump...T-stat...and Serpentine belts was around $500 + Labour + Taxes

 

I was going to ask this- So, if your timing belt breaks it does not screw up your valves ? Good to know!

 

The timing belt can run any where from 500 to 1000 depending where you go. You could do it your self if you have the know how for about 200 bucks in parts give or take a few dollars.

 

A 'non-interference engine' is designed so that if the timing belt or chain breaks while running, the valves will not strike the piston tops. The engine will only stop running without damage. 'Interference' engines will suffer major mechanical damage if the chain or belt fails during operation, thus the need to replace the belt or chain when recommended.

cost me just shy of 300 to do it myself with NAPA parts. First pull that plastic cover off the front of the motor just to make sure it is the t belt. I don't see what else it could be but still, just make sure.

 

Just so you are aware in the future, the recommended service of the timing belt is 6 years or 90,000 miles.

There are also many other things that should maintained as well, including transmisison fluid, front and rear diff oil, transfer case oil, spark plugs, and inspection of pretty much everything that is made of rubber or has rubber on it (hoses, belts, cv boots, ball joints, brake lines, etc).

Back in the day, people would ask how important it is to worry about anything besides just a regular oil change. My response is the same today... It just depends how long you want your vehicle to last.
