Are my 5100’s upside down?

Largely because most 3rd gen owners are emotionally unintelligent and let their hormones and emotions control their actions. Like this guy:

I’m NOT an expert. I did read once to always mount them logo up. I’d call or check with manufacturer on your specific model as I do know some are boot down.

You are a daring man, based on the excellent advice received so far...I have Icons, some posts speak negatively about them (and everything else, including Icecream in summer), but I have had great performance from my Icon gear.

 

It doesn't matter which way they face.

One school of thought is outter tube on top for less un-sprung weight. Turn them the other way (outer tube on bottom) if you feel like it.

I've had them with the outer tube on the bottom for like 7 years. My truck hasn't exploded. Shocks still work, too!

 

I think it does matter based of the strut design, especially when you bottom out. The flow of oil in the strut is designed based on orientation and which side is up matters how is is displaced when piston moves (where the gas pocket is).

That's entirely possible, however I've never noticed any driveability or performance issues with my "up-side-down" 5100s.

That may be more of an issue with more expensive shocks, but I get the feeling these $80 shocks couldn't care less what orientation they're in.

I found a set of factory leaf spring off a 2003 tacoma they have 129k on them, and I got the guy down to $100 so it seem like a steal. But I would like to get another opinion. Based on this picture do these spring still look like they have some life left in them, I think I’ll just throw some new bushing in them before I put them on my truck.

I couldn't give away my springs if I wanted; after I installed my OME Dakar's, I took the factory leaf springs to the recycling/dump.
