I’m a newbie with minimal Taco knowledge. Thanks to you guys/gals on here I avoided getting ripped off. I was all set to go buy a 15 TRD Pro next week. After researching the forums here I discovered the truck wasn’t a legit TRD Pro. Rookie mistake considering it’s Gray and they didn’t make them in that color in 15 ‍♂️ It was advertised as a TRD Pro. I sent the dealership a Email and this was their response

    Good afternoon, Mike!
I reached out to my manager with your concern, and you are absolutely right. I apologize for the incorrect information on the website. I will make sure the description is corrected online. Is there anything else you may be interested in taking a look at?

Needless to say they won’t be getting my business. Thanks again to you guys and gals! If anyone has any leads on a 2015 Pro in the Philadelphia area let me know.

Get yourself a cheaper SR5 and spend the rest on suspension (Icon/Fox/King/etc). Only reason I’d go for a TRD Pro is the orange paint job for 2nd gens.

It could have easily been an honest mistake. Internet mangers at large dealerships have a huge amount of inventory and info come across their desk each day. They're human. I know people are cynical about such things and assume the worst.

No doubt. I did call and the sales person I spoke with did tell me it was definitely a Pro. No harm no foul.

Might be worth not completely crossing them off the list for the future. The more dealerships you have to choose from, the more likely you are to find what you're looking for.

I’m sure that’s the case in some situations however all it takes is a quick check of the VIN and it’s pretty clear what’s what.

For S&Gs I’ve been checking around for used ‘14 & ‘15 AC ORs. You wouldn’t believe how many are advertised as ORs only to run the VIN and find they’re SR, SR5, or, gulp, Sports..

@Nyet556 , welcome and thanks for the thread! Good stuff:thumbsup:

That reminds me of a guy that worked for me and tried to tell me someone espionage his vehicle.

I said, don’t you mean sabotage. He said whatever dude.

This one is near me. I’m not flashy enough to pull it off. I would prefer the white one.

Yea, you can’t fly under the radar with that. I don’t like to stand out either.

I agree with Plain Jane Taco. Do not cross them off your list just yet. If the truck is at a non-Toyota dealer, there is a very high chance those sales people don't really know what a Toyota Pro is. You wouldn't believe how many "TRD Pros" listed online when they were all TRD sports, OR and SR5. Sometimes, those Toyota guys don't even know it either. For me it's an honest mistake from them. No biggie. The easiest way to check is to grab the VIN, punch it in the Toyota VIN look up system for vehicle specs. Simple

"Let The Buyer Beware" is somethig that should akways be remembered. It's our money, so be careful what you buy. There are those that will try to take advantage of you, and others that will make an honest mistake.
But if you know what you looking for beforehand. That's the only want that you can protect yourself from ma king a purchase that you will regret.

I don’t know brother. It's not like Pros of that vintage grow on trees. You might need to expand your color selection. As they say....now is the time to buy

I realize that. But having worked at a large dealership for many years (not in sales) I know how easy it is to make a mistake. Sometimes the sub model names, numbers and abbreviations can confuse people....OR, Sport, Pro, TRD, etc.

Around here we take it for granted. But we're the exception

Yup, I can understand all that if I were a customer walking off the street and the sales person had to look up information.

BUT, to me, advertising is different. They have the time, ability, and obligation to get it right when they post it on the web or print it up.
