I recently installed my lift with 5100's and OME 888 coils. After some searching I came across frequent complaints of the 888 coils experiencing a good amount of sag. I've only had the truck lifted for 2 weeks so far so there hasn't been any issues but I'm seeing this problem come up after just a few months.

So what would be the alternate coil to use in this case to achieve a similar lift that the 888's provide? Would the Dobinson or Eibach coils work well with the 5100's?

Somewhere on TW, I saw a chart and it showed the 886 was a stiffer spring than the 888.

So looks like 886's are the solution. 3mm shorter than the 888's but I'm sure that would be made up by the lack of suspension sag.

I have 5100/888, 15mo later I have 3/4" sag. I looked all over for coils that were similar rate (~600lb) but 415-420mm which would get me back to the 2.75-3" lift I started with and really desire. After looking at Dobinson, Eibach, Wheelers, and even coils for other Toyota's, I found zero great options.

I've even seen members with 886's state they had a lot of sag. Because of that, I've decided to use a couple 3/8" spacers from Wheelers to get the desired lift.

That's what I thought because I found next to no info about running anything other than OME coils or OEM coils on the 5100's. So you basically ended up at a 2" lift up front? That's not too bad with my 1.5" rear lift. I just want to avoid a ridiculous looking rake.

Correct. And same here, I don't like the rake or the very apparent (to me) lack of gap between my tire and fender up front. I really like the ride of the 5100's and 888's, so I'm hesitant to go to a stiffer spring. There was another thread last week where it was pointed out that the stock coils, while shorter than our OME options, are much stiffer at 712lb.

I plan on doing these Wheeler's poly spacers. Our suspension is 2:1, so a 3/8" spacer gets you 3/4" lift. The only downside is that I'll have to uninstall the coils in order to install longer bolts. I don't like the idea of just barely grabbing the threads so I'd rather spend the extra hour or so and play it safe.

Just a heads up if you ever decided to swap coils....
I was told by Headstrong and Wheelers not to run 886s with 5100s. Something about coil bind. I didn’t look into it any further. I just took their advice and went with 886s and Nitrocharger 90000.
    I assume they’ve settled some, but I really haven’t noticed a difference.

It’s a real shitty picture, but the only side shot I have to give you an idea. I also have 1/4” top plates.

    @HeadStrong Off-Road @Wheeler's Off-Road Inc can you provide more info around the issue with 5100’s & 886??

Message @Dobinsons Mike - He can suggest a spring that'd work. Their coils work with 5100's, OME Nitrochargers, etc.. To my understanding the spring rates aren't really designed for 3rd gens. Our front ends weigh more and cannot handle the weight over time.

We have had no issues with running Bilsteins with those coils. We usually recommend them for bumper/winch combos still though. Although ARB does list the coils as a medium duty coil for 3rd Gen's. Just touched bases with all sales rep's here and we haven't ever recollected never prohibiting the combo for any safety reasons like coil bind. You just get a better ride out of different coils if not having the extra weight up front. Some sag in ALL springs ever made is bound to happen over time and miles unfortunately. Just the nature of the beast. Some a little more than others. :notsure:

1/4” top spacers on both sides or just the passenger? Have the same setup going on the front soon. Have similar weight as you too.

1/4” on both sides, and a trim packer on driver’s side only. I should’ve put two trim packers on the driver’s side, but the lean isn’t too bad.
I’ll fix it when I change up the front.

Cool. So two of those and a 1/4” top spacer on both sides. I gotta be able to stuff those 35’s soon

What are you changing on your front?

Honestly I don’t have any issues with my OME setup, but it would be nice to have something a little better that’s adjustable. It’s a very low priority though, so I’m not changing it up any time soon.

I hear a lot of people telling me about the 886 or 888 sag as well, and I always wondered if it's just 3rd or 4th hand info (rumors), since it's odd for coils to lose height too quickly, unless more weight was added. There are lots of inconsistent measurements being made too.

Sag = the spring is worn and not holding up how it's supposed to.
Squat = the spring is absorbing the extra weight added and now riding at a different height.

Drives me nuts how many people say "added a 500LB rear bumper and now my suspension is all sagged out". No, your suspension wasn't designed for that weight, and it's just squatting under the extra load. Time to upgrade.

FWIW, our C59-314 is virtually the same specs as OME 2888. Same height and spring rate. The 314's were first made for Prado 120's (equivalent to GX470's). I think OME came up with the 2888 with the 2016+ Tacoma suspension development, as I don't see it listed for any other model of vehicle.

I have first hand experience of 888s sagging 3/4" after only 6 months of driving on them with absolutely no added weight up front and barely any weight added to the bed.

Barely on 2" of lift up front with 888 coils
Order 1/8/19, delivered a month later and installed.

Our C59-314 give 2" lift with stock weight on a 16+ Tacoma. If you ended up with more than that to start with, maybe it just took that long to settle? Were you at 2.75" and it came down to 2.0"?
