    It's selfishness and greed at it's finest. You can bet that they aren't advocating at all to keep and maintain public lands that they squander for their own personal gain.

    Yeah it's definitely a crappy trend. The east side of the Crazies (and to a lesser extent the west side) is a very good example of the dwindling access in MT. Checkerboard ownership over there isn't helping, either.

    The thing that most sticks in my craw is the fact that a lot of the landowners are then taking private profit from the public resource of wildlife. A lot of folks on the east side of the Crazies charge trespass fees to go chase elk or deer on the ranches, and some are pretty hefty (from $1,000 and up). The family that put the gate up on Mabee road runs an outfitting business as well, highlighting their elk/deer/antelope/sheep hunts.

    Wildlife is a public resource, but it's becoming more and more a tool for private profit. I get the fact that everybody has to make a living and outfitting is hard work, but c'mon. The Flying D ranch has a hell of a herd of MT elk and charges $15,000 for a hunt. o_O I reckon Uncle Ted's gotta keep making that money somehow.

    But there are some folks trying to keep the dialogue open. OneMontana, the Public Land/Water Access Association and Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation are three that come to mind. And there are ranchers that are getting more open to limited access to private lands for shoulder season hunts, but I'm still concerned about our ability to get out to our public lands. I guess we all have to take an active role in keeping those historic access points open. Like that Outside article says, "use it or lose it" I guess.

    Antelope hunting is great fun. Lots of game, usually good opportunity. If you're not too picky, you can likely tag out. Looks like last year harvest rate was about 75% for region 7, heavily weighted for bucks over doe/fawn harvest. And there's a ton of accessible land, both public and block management.

    If there's anyone here who hasn't been there... Mountains Walking is kind of a cool brewery here in Bozeman. Met some friends there last Thursday night. Had their chicken thigh sandwich. It was good. And since I'm not a big beer guy (don't like anything hoppy) I tried their Digger Bee (Honey Rye) and enjoyed it.

    So construction has started on Hwy 191 between Gateway and Big Sky. Guard rail replacement. Crews say to expect 15 minute delays. Guys at work are reporting 3 HOUR delays. Either those work crews need to figure their shit out or there are going to be some serious road rage incidents and wrecks down there.

    My delivery guys spent 2 hours not moving on 191 this morning. I left work before they got back so I'm assuming the drive back was just as bad.

    Radio commercials for days saying 15 minute delays. How that turned into 2-3 hours I have no idea.
