Dashcam Hardwire Install

What kind of mount do you have? Is the adhesive on the attached net that’s in the mount? Looking to replicate this in mine... thanks!

You DO know that MESO is a one man hobbyist shop? It ain't like ordering from Amazon. Place your order and wait patiently. He'll eventually get around to running another batch.

 

others will tell to to "splice" into a power wire....however, you can use a "add-a-fuse" and route it to the engine bay fuse box...attache to the INJ 1 fuse or the ENG 1 fuss....both are red 10a fuses....if you don't want to go there, go to the cabin fuse box.....there is a 15a fuse , 3rd down on left......all of them will have power when the engine is turned on and goes off when engine is turned off.....

 

I'm on the side of splicing/tapping into the power wire under the overhead cluster. It's very easy to get to and if you simply "skin" the housing off the power wire, you can then t-splice/solder to the power and negative wires under there. Makes for a super clean and easy route solution to provide power to a dash cam. Did this in my 2017 and just recently did this in my dad's 2016 Tacoma. Plenty of room under there to store the USB co

 

I use a Gopro adapter, the one with the 3 prongs. I ended up cutting one of the prongs so it could fit in the Tacoma Gopro mount.


I then glued the magnet that came with the Garmin 45 to the mount.



But I might change the location of the Dash cam to the drivers side of rearview mirror. Easier to access the dashcam's menu instead of leaning to the passenger's side to setup the camera.

 

I mounted mine just to the left of the mirror with the supplied magnetic mount. It's quick and easy to use there, but out of my line of sight. I never even notice it when driving.

You can't tell from the photo but it is in the area cleared by the windshield wipers.

 

Getting ready to do this install, can someone point me to a new Amazon link for auto-vox hardwire install kit. The link is too old now and I want to make sure I'm ordering the right part. I'm a novice when it comes to this stuff and dont want to F it up

I got hardwire included with my Viofo A129 duo cam. And it has 3 wires, not sure what goes. I'm not electronic tech here. One goes ACC, 2nd goes batt, and last goes ground. Tried follow what you guys do but having 3 wires doesn't help because must of you have only 2 wires.

 

ACC - to any fuse that is "hot" after key is turned to acc or on.
I suggest the power outlets.
Batt - to any fuse that is ALWAYS "HOT".
all inside the cab fuse box.

 

I used posi taps to tap into the wires in the overhead. No need to cut truck wiring, it just puts a little pinhole into the wire shielding.

Integrated my V1 and dashcam harness. Zero splice/wire tapping. 2 pins insert into the back of the mirror switched power and ground wires

 

If you want switched power this is a bit easier to install and does not require going behind the A-Pillar. If you want full time power, running from the fuse box up the A-Pillar is best.

I too tapped into my fuse box with an add a line... I pulled the driver door weatherstripping back and ran the wire up along the front of the door jam. I then used a fish tape and ran the wire across the top of the headliner across to the center console area. Popped it out (4 screws) and then finished my camera install. No pulling the A pillar cover or pushing the wire into the front of the headliner.

Just glad to see so many Taco owners using dash cams.

This is my solution. Please disregard the potato quality shot.

The camera is an Aukey DR-01. It's a bit chunkier than some, but had decent reviews and I find the video quality to be more than sufficient. The box to the right is part of the Aukey hardwire kit. It's the motion sensor feature. The neat thing is that the camera receives power via the OBDII port. The motion sensitivity is quite good, I can hear it turn on when I walk into the garage from my house. I've had rainstorms trigger it as well. The beauty is that it's a true no-cut solution, no add-a-fuse or anything. I purchased an OBDII splitter and am still able to run my ScanGauge as well. The only downfall is that anytime the OBDII port is accessed, you lose the camera. It shouldn't be an issue for most services as far as capturing anything inappropriate the dealer does, but there is that problem. I took the truck for a state inspection today and when they brought it back out everything was unplugged. I expected them to unplug it so they can put their reader on the machine, but I'm disappointed that they didn't reinstall, but that's small potatoes all things considered.

 

That is cool. Is this the 10 pin type a, or the 12 pin for the tacoma?

So I just purchased a Thinkware FA200 with the front and rear cameras. I would like to use the GoPro mount up front but I’m not sure what to use as I have zero experience with GoPro or their mounts. How did you modify your mount to fit into the GoPro?

 

I use the 3M tape included with my Q800 Pro, no issues
