2016 Tacoma - seeing what IMO strongly resembles factory defect in the paint. roof meets wind shield. 2 spots right at the crease. right at the ridge of the folds..hmmm And another I dabbed with paint a year ago. Can zoom in closer, pretty good res. not losing sleep on this.. curious what you think ? ( one dupe pic, sorry ) 20190813_090307[18073].jpg 20190813_090135[18072].jpg 20190813_090135[18072].jpg

Defect I would think but good luck getting them to do anything about it

Have you had your windshield replaced?

If you have, they use a air knife and sometimes a razor blade to cut out the old windshield. Sometimes they hit the paint with the knife and go down to bare metal. A good windshield guy will go around the whole edge and check for these and hit them with primer, a bad installer will just leave it and put in the glass knowing it will take years before it causes a issue and they will be long gone.

Definitely a rock chip that went untreated (maybe improperly treated on the 1).

I have 1 in the same spot that I’ve been slacking on treating

Damn I really need to get started on mine, I can see some of the surrounding paint blister :frusty: I shouldn’t of procrastinated. You can see I got double whammy- it hit my windshield first

Rock chip, if you drive on Like like I promise that’s where it came from. I get one on my wife’s 4runner and two on my tacoma. Touch up paint before it starts to bubble

How many miles? It's not a defect. Rock/pebble chips that were untreated. You live in an area that's surrounded by salt water. Corrosion is more likely in areas like yours.

What steps would anyone recommend to fix a rock chip that has started to slightly blister around the edges? Looked like the op had some and I know I do

Im guessing the best way would be to sand where it has blistered? Any tips/tricks. Planned on using a rust converter before touching it up too it’s just the sanding under the blister that’s making me gun shy now

I concur untreated rock chips in paint..

wash area with a wax remover

get a set of dental picks (like $4 at harbor freight) and fine sandpaper 1000-2000 grit wet sandpaper) wet sand surrounding area 1/8th to 1/4" around damage) pick out as much rust as you can.. so it is nothing but bare metal... get a spray can of primer/sealer, and spray a little into a paper plate, or bowl, use a Q-tip and dab primer onto area (thinly..) this will seal it for the time being....

order color matched paint... using a small piece of sandpaper sand primer after you build 2-3 light coats.. just to give paint a tooth to attach, then you can apply the paint.. taking care to let the first coat cure before applying 2nd, and 3rd coat.. paint should be just proud of the surface.. once paint has a day to cure, you can come back and wet sand the area smooth, and level with the surrounding paint (1/8"-1/4" area around damage we wet sanded earlier).. once paint is leveled, you can apply 2-3 coats of clearcoat to blend the area.. let it cure then wet sand again to level the clearcoat with surrounding area).... up it to 2000 grit, and block the area to ensure level surface, and then wax area that you wax removed.. should be good as new if you did it correctly (mostly common sense stuff here)...

Bad luck either way. Probably some dirt clog of shit falling off a dump truck. It truly sucks, trust me, I didn't want to be right. I see the shitiest haulers here, without spraying off before going on road, and uncovered loads.
