Would like some AC help on my 2005

I have noticed the last couple years the AC has not been very cold compared to my wifes car so I decided to look into it. Well yesterday the outside the temp was 82 and the air temp coming out the vent was 68, fan on max and recirc off, 60 mph. That is one thing and then the other is if I turn the recirc on (while fan is on max) the fan speed increases and the air vent temp goes up by a couple degrees. Is this normal and does the fan speed drop off that much going from max to the next level down? It just seems like from max to 3rd level the fan really drops off.

Is it worth me hooking up a low press side gage and check the pressures? I have that capability but not sure if it is worth it. Is there a correct chart for our vehicles as to what the pressure should be? BTW the condenser is very clean.
Thanks for any help you can offer.

The setting between 3-4 on my truck is much greater in speed than between 1-2-3.
Noticeable difference in sound and air velocity.

I’m going to go with a refrigerant issue in your case.

Don't listen to me. I, too, have a 2005 Tacoma (low mileage). Last year right before Summer the AC started acting up. It was super hot so I took it to the dealer. They charged me a fee to diagnose what the problem was. Two weeks later I had a new condenser and essential a new AC unit. $800 later my cabin gets colder than a freezer. That said, it may be worth asking your local Toyota dealer to run the test for you (yes, I realize that on this forum dealers are stealers) but it might be worth looking into.

Nothing wrong with this suggestion at all.

But a lot of times a A/C Speciality Shop can be cheaper.
Best to check reviews as usual however.

TnShooter, you are right, of course. A shop specializing in AC will be cheaper. But, alas, I am in NY and it is hard to find those kinds of places so I was kind of stuck.

I'd put guages on it before I took it anywhere. That way you at least have something to compare with whatever the shop tells you.

Just curious. Learning a little about the system before I put gauges on it to check what's going on. I need to get it checked but I would like to know alittle more before taking it in.

Well I just checked the pressure on low side and static is was 57 psi and after running on max the pressure was at 0 psi. I suspect I have a leak and very low on Freon.

I took it to the dealer and they recharged it with since it was almost empty and they added the dye. What type and where do I get a black lite for checking for leaks before taking it back to the dealer? Is this a cheap piece of equipment for this? Thanks
