From there, it wasn't long before we found ourselves on North Peaks Road - first through the forest, and then through the tree line, making our way up, up, up. Then, there we were, getting high - the road the second highest in all of Idaho - on a beautiful day.

See it all in Getting High in Idaho

So up we went, the highest road in Idaho, ours for the travelling. There would be - at least for a moment - no Toyota's higher.

Check out the highest road in Idaho, and the weirdest mine to boot - Getting Even Higher in Idaho, Again

We're running the IDBDR! (intro post)

    July 18, 2019.

...And then - in the distance - a cloud of dust. Unsure what it was, we continued on. Eventually, the source became clear - dual combines churning through a field of wheat. Like any kid at heart, I've got a soft spot for big machines like this, and having never seen a combine at work up close, I couldn't help myself but to climb out of the truck to stand on top of the @Cascadia Tents RTT to snap a few photos.

The grin on the combine driver's face said it all - even with some weirdo standing on top of his truck, snapping photos - he too was enjoying the experience.

In no time flat, we'd reached the water crossing. And, while I guess it was technically a water crossing, to suggest that it was any kind of trouble - much less the kind that deserved a skull and crossbones on the map - was pushing it.

For good measure, we went through three times. You know, just to make sure we didn't miss anything.

Why care about post processing? All pics are post processed. All cameras do some post processing to their pics, especially phones these days, and all photographers worth a shit post process. Before digital, they were all post processed in the dark room (“dodging and burning”), see Ansel Adams, etc. Every famous image you’ve ever seen, and likely every picture you’ve ever liked has been post processed. What the cameras see and what our eyes see never match up. They often need more contrast or colors that pop more. Etc. Post processing and over working an image are different two things. Yes he (turbobd) post processes his images, but that’s part of what makes his images amazing.

As Ansel Adams once said “The negative is similar to a musician’s score, and the print to the performance of that score.”

I surely miss those days/nights in the darkroom burning and dodging. Therapeutic...like camping!

The base is a Lowe’s 4x6 utility trailer. The frame was custom made. And the axle is a 3500 lb upgraded one with the 6x5.5 bolt pattern and bolts directly on to where the original axle was.

There is of course some post processing to this photo - you can't really capture something in RAW and not expect to post it a bit. After-all, that's what all development is. In this case, all I had to do was lighten the foreground a bit. The rest was just a nice composition.

Thanks for the kudos. You're welcome to submit it to the calendar...I never really know when/how that all happens.
