In a couple weeks I'm getting a check for some artwork I did for a calendar (medical company promotional material = pays good),
    $6000 to be exact.

thing is, i don't know what to do with it. I'm making decent money now, but I'm so used to struggling, I can't think outside of basic needs.

..and I don't NEED it right now- i'm not hurting or behind on anything.
I don't want to blow it on major purchases or fart it away..

Maybe one upgrade to the truck (tires...lift?)
maybe one home purchase- laptop computer or home entertainment..

but then I'm thinking I'll just sit on it, and save it to fund my own sales site of shirts and prints and stuff- coming soon.

But I'd like to start earning money on my money- and i know the economy is tanked right now, so what is a good investment or 'safe' place for it?

any suggestions? hell, a third of it has to go back to uncle sam next year ANYway...fuck.

while you sit on it, put it in a high interest (HA!) savings account. Most banks and some online places are around 3.5 to 4%. Not bad. its safe and FDIC insured there. it will also allow you to take it out at any time. good luck!

You should check out HSBC online banking. Ive used them for over a year now. They have high intrest rate savings accounts. I think right now its at about 3.4%
when i first started my account they were at 6%!!! for a basic savings!

wait, you should invest it completely in real estate. Real estate is the safest investment you can make.
