Cold kills as well. In the battery business the two busiest times of year are extreme heat and extreme cold. Cold kills in a different way, but a dead battery is a dead battery.

I replaced mine with X2Power premium AGM from Batteries+Bulbs. Its great battery, manufactured by NorthStar.

Understood. Not sure I want to create another maintenance item in my life, but I guess I could just throw a charger on it every time I swap summer/winter wheels.

I guess I should buy one of those new Noco battery chargers too, probably the 3500 model. My charger is from the 1980s when the drugs were pure.

FWIW it takes Toyota 3+ hours to swap a battery since they load test it even though a multimeter shows less than 10 volts. These batteries don't slowly die either, they just completely crap out at the most inopportune times. 10 Hours of my life I never get back. I had to be towed twice and once was able to jump. I haven't owned the truck a year yet. The OEM batteries do not like to sit, even for a few days. I carry a jump pack in the truck since I don't trust it not to die. I also have no draw on the battery from external things

I didn't check it before it died, but in looking at it when I had to jump it they MAYBE added water to it at the 20k service, hard to say for sure.

    Lots, straight from the factory.
    Replace with an Optima. /problems.

I’ve run them in almost every car I have had. They last forever and are very solid batteries.

My battery is still going strong since I purchased my truck in April of 2017. The Canadian winters are harsh too

For a typical group size in our trucks I'd recommend the 7200 and chargers have gotten some much better and more convenient since the 80s.

From what I can tell, typical battery for our trucks is group 27, around 92 A-h. Noco G3500 spec sheet says it is good for 120 A-h. Would it not do the job? Asking for information/clarification only.

Battery in my 2016 is still fine. I think it might be starting to slow down a bit as I noticed it takes one or two more cranks to start up. Where I live it’s lows in the teens in the winter and highs of 100 in the summer.

Yea, vehicle operation had nothing to do with this one.

I never ran the battery down, no regular short drives, no lights with the ignition off, never had to jump it, no stereo on in accessory mode etc...

And it's been in for all three free Toyota services, so if it needed that much maintenance in two years they should've caught it.

The 3500 will work fine for maintenance; if you ever happen to deeply discharge the battery it will take much longer to recharge the battery. I really only say this for how long it may take.

on my second battery as well. Its a little embarrasing when you showyour parents your sweet now "most dependable truck on earth" and it won't start after going out to dinner. "how much did this thing cost? and it wont even start?" I'll never understand toyotas capacity to underdeliver on all of the easiest shit. If the rest of (and important bits) were so good it would be a real dealbreaker.

Just had to replace mine yesterday. Bought in April 2017, slower starts on Monday/Tuesday, barely started Wednesday morning, dead by Wednesday afternoon. Had to get it jumped, drove straight to the dealer. Luckily my dealer changed mine out in like 20 minutes and didn't charge a dime!

Mine at 3 years old was reading 12.0v after sitting for a day and getting a little weak starting. Took that opprotunity to upgrade to an agm

Because you don't have the heat in the summer which is what kills the battery!
Texas /Florida is were it's going to do in a battery. It's not the cold that kills the battery. The hot summer has weakened the battery and as the cold comes in it takes more to turn the engine over. That's when your battery is more likely to die.

My 2nd gen battery failed in less than a year. I also ignored the free warranty replacement and put a Bosch battery in. It lasted 6 years in the roasting heat of Bakersfield. Put in another one and it was still working fine when I traded it in last December. Even a free Toyota battery isn't worth the hassle of suddenly having a dead truck.
