Prototyped this mount for my Mophie case to attach the the airbag spot in my first gen. It took many tries to get it to snap in correctly.

Yall are making me jealous with all these 3D prints. I've never had access to one, but want to give it a try one day...sometime in my lifetime. So many good ideas just no way to give them a try.

I don't own any CNC equipment but have access to it at work (CAD/CAM programmer). Our boss lets us tinker around and cut personal stuff out at times when we're not horribly busy. We're a full job shop so it's nice to get a few things done here and there.

He's sitting on a Trumpf 5kw CO2 laser, a Mazak 8kw fiber laser, and a Mazak 2.5kw tube laser. Was even convincing enough the last few years to let him allow us to dabble into cutting wood on the tube laser (doubles as a flat laser) and that let us do some fun stuff.

Would be interested in seeing some of those lasers. Never heard of a tube laser.

Talked to one of our techs at work that used to work around this stuff. It's a laser specially made for hollow work pieces.

It's fun, a giant PITA for maintenance but fun. It's all fun and games until you melt one of the mirrors.

Started assembling my new printer last night. Got the base assembled with y-axis rails, motor, and cable guide. Started assembling the bed support and decided to call it a night after adjusting the rails because the directions weren't clear on where the placement measurements were referenced from.

    Moving along.

Got the y-axis belt and heated bed mounted. Also, finished assembling the x-axis assembly (motor, belt, rails, extruder head, and fans). Next is starting the z-axis, but I need a break to get other stuff taken care of.

Found one error in the printed directions, but the assembly video on YouTube is correct. Bound to be a few more since they have M4x6 and M4x8 screws and everything in the printed directions calls for M4x8.

    She's mostly done.

I'm short a number of M4 t-nuts to be able to mount the control board, display, and filament holder. I'm going to contact Anet's CS to see about getting the pieces that I'm missing. I can't do the wiring until I can mount the control board. I suppose I could steal a t-nut or two from other spots to get it mounted and wired, but I'd rather not since it still wouldn't be useable.

After taking a few online courses for Autocad Fusion 360 I spent the last couple hours making my first rendering. I basically just measured and copied a stepper motor I had sitting on my desk.

While it's not that complicated, figuring out how to do the things I learned like beveling corners took a little bit of time. It is 100% accurate though.

My Dad's band saw broke a little while back. The cheap plastic linkage between the saw arm and the motor cracked and broke. I measured the old part w/ some calipers, drew it up in Fusion 360 and printed it out. Dimensions were perfect first print! Tapped the bearings in with a mallet and put it back together. We tested it out and it runs great. The 3d printed part is much sturdier than the original.

I was corrected a multitude of times over on r/functionalprint. I now know its not a bandsaw. Either way it doesnt really matter. Saw is fixed.

Welcome to the wonderful world of 3D. There are two types additive like a 3D printer where you build up objects and subtractive like a CNC where you start out with a shape and cut out objects.

There are many 3D designing softwares out there but two great ones are both free from Autodesk for home users.

TinkerCad is easier to use but is more for simple designs. The learning curve is not too great.

Fusion 360 is way more complicated but once you know how to use it it is much more powerful.

Both are free to design and use the same account as long as you don't make more than $100k a year off them.

Oh man! Stoked there's a thread on this here! I just got a printer a couple months back under the impression that places like thingiverse would have everything I needed (spoiler alert: I'm a dork and want very specific things). As I started printing the standard stuff like vase skulls and google home mini mounts (pics below), I quickly started coming up with other stuff that I didn't want to buy, or stuff that kinda fell outside of the normal standards that wasn't out there. Warning... SO MANY PICS... sorry in advance!

    upload_2019-10-20_20-40-17.jpg
    upload_2019-10-20_20-41-18.jpg

There are others, but they're just stuff from thingiverse. Now... after the first thing I printed that didn't fit (a crib mobile holder arm thing (just had a baby girl)), I knew I was gonna have to make it myself... Enter fusion 360. I had heard things about tinkercad and a few others, but I know how meticulous I am and figured I'd just skip to 360 right off the bat and hit the learning curve at the beginning... like a band aid, you know? FORTUNATELY, there are a lot of forums, youtube videos and other random stuff around the net on how to learn it, so I dug in! Since then, I've mostly focused on the few things I needed, then moved on to some scale model stuff for practice and some friends of mine. Here are a few of the more recent ones.

Now for some of the drawings (I've printed a few, but they're already gone to buds, LOL)

Still learning and flushing a few things out, but so far it's super fun! Gonna start jamming out some volume knobs and other random stuff for the truck/cars soon! If there are any other folks messing around with Fusion 360, I'd love to bounce some stuff off of y'all (I can't figure out handling bodies/faces/planes right yet). Cheers!

I recently picked up an elegoo mars resin printer and made this thing that I found on my mini factory. I am going to use it as the top of a tap handle.
