Bumper buddies!

How are you liking the RCI rear bumper? I love mine, but I'm ditching the flip plate and going to magnets.

 

It's an awesome rear bumper! Looks really good and matches the factory lines well. I also love that it moves the hitch up and gives a ton more clearance. It also goes really well with the SSO setup and as far as appearance witt the position of the recovery points and the way they both follow the body lines closely. They look like a matching set.

 

I’d like to see SSO make a rear bumper...

We actually are going to be making a rear bumper, as well as sliders for the Tacoma here shortly. We're just trying to bring our lead times down, make sure the new shipping department stays on track and manage a few other small issues that happen here and there. Once we get all that into a place that I am comfortable with, then we will begin making new products. We're thinking a full front bumper first, into sliders, and last the rear bumper. However, we're completely open to suggestions. What would you guys like to see come out for the Tacoma?

I would buy sliders first and would guess that would be a majority? You see way more sliders on Tacoma’s than you do bumpers. But... if you could make a bumper that kept BSM and all the monitoring I bet that would sell extremely well.

 

BSM and a swing out please!

 

I'd be most interested in the full one-piece bumper first.

 

BSM in a steel bumper is not possible. C4 tried and quickly learned it's physically impossible. Hence Toyota makes the bumper out of plastic.

 

not possible behind steel. perhaps possible if the sensor sits in an opening in the steel. I would go through the recalibration process defined in the service manual afterwards.

 

This might be a stupid idea (because I don't fabricate armor) but I think it'd be cool if someone could make a high clearance rear bumper with a swing out that replaces the tailgate. That way you don't need to open the swing out.....then open the tailgate. Seems like it could have a pretty tight departure angle too....either way I'd like to see a rear bumper from SSO.

 

Having steel anywhere near the front of the sensor will cause issues. Millimeter wave radio has very extreme propagation limitations.

 

I'd like to see a high clearance rear bumper, with or without a swingout. I'll volunteer my truck for testing!

Edit: Everyone makes sliders so I think it's a bit of a saturated market. Besides, the best ones on the market are made by @SDHQ OFFROAD.

 

So make big plastic windows.

 

Are you trying to rehash old arguements?

 

I gave feedback to both the owner, as well as our lead CAD designer. I think we're going to do a rear bumper that works with the BSM system first, just because people don't think it can be done! Now remember, first we're working on bringing down lead times across all of our products including the Tundra/4Runner/Tacoma/GX, once we put out the small in house fires, new Tacoma products are first on the list of to dos!

If you guys can make a BSM and parking sensors compatible bumper I'll be first in line to buy it.

 

I've heard some talk in the past of relocating BSM sensors behind the plastic taillights. I think the hardest part about figuring this out regardless of what route you go would be recalibrating the system. Having a Toyota dealer do it everytime time you need to test/calibrate the system would get expensive. You can find free pirate techstream software for windows but I have no idea if you can use it to play with the BSMs. I've never tried before anyway.

 

I changed the oil and washed the truck today. Looks so gooooood
