Anything welding

PVC won't hold. These are gonna be posts sitting in concrete 3ft deep.

 

If you mean welding process, I've welded galvanized with mig 75/25 mix.

I mig weld galvanized pipe all the time. I try to remove the galvanized coating as much as I can. I try to stay away from the fumes as well. There than more difficult to get a quality weld because you have to burn thru the coating, its pretty much the same.

It will take some practice, so find some scraps of the same material to get yourself and the machine dialed in.

That's probably what I'm gonna try. I went to the optometrist and told them I'm having trouble focusing on things that are close up. She put some lense in front of my eye and I focused easily. I asked her what to get and she said I just need ti rest my eyes. Pretty annoying

 

It's a vision problem. My eyes go in and out of focus when I'm looking at the weld pool.

 

a buddy of mine has an older version of their model 600. Built his whole exo crawler with it and doesnt have a single complaint

 

Might have to try that too. Probably pick up some cheap reading glasses as well. Gonna be trial and error I guess.

 

You can get a cheater lense for your shield Basically cheap glasses that stay inside your lid at all times. Good luck!

 

I can do basic MIG welding, and have done some stick... I am going to have unlimited access to a stick welder here in the near future and am going to be putting some serious practice hours in. I need to get me a decent hood. What do yall recommend?

 

I have the Vulcan cheapo freight one. No complaints so far. Had it for almost two years. I weld as a hobby though.

 

I honestly miss my Harbor freight auto shade. $45 bucks and worked great. It only had 1 setting, shade 11, I think. I have a Miller Elite now. It has variable shades, but I never change it, so whats the point.

I spent $300 or so for the thing, I'm always afraid I'm gonna drop it off my ghead by accident and its going to make an expensive noise. I never worried about abusing the HF helmet.

I think I might grab a HF helmet next time I go in there.

 

I have the same. Well $45 anyway, but it's adjustable shade.
What happened to your old one?

 

Gave it to one of my buddy's so his kid could start welding.

This is something a Ophthalmologist could point you in the correct direction or fix the problem

It might be your focal point is right there at the distance you are from the weld puddle.

As you move it changes making things go in and out of focus .

I was lucky mine was about 20" as long as I don`t get in that range all is good.

Wearing glasses for distance I can see just fine to read and weld

 

Pancake hood or no good

 

I have a reading lens inside my Miller hood - it works great!

I tried wearing reading glasses under my hood, but seemed to always have to turn my head a certain way, and not see through the middle of the lens. The reader lens in the hood is huge - no matter the angle of my head, I can see.

Give one a try - you will be happy with it.
