i entered the Tacoma marketplace with a MT or no go requirement. and i didn't even know about the AT drama at that time, nothing. if i ended up with an AT i would have had that bill, too. no question about it.

I had 45,000 miles on mine before I finally had enough of the slushbox. Figured at that point I either need to trade soon or keep it for a long time.

Maybe some engineers at Toyota sabotaged the programing for the auto trans so they could get more manual trucks on the road....

That was me too. If Toyota didn’t offer the 6 speed I’d have gotten something else or kept my Yukon.

I was only looking for used MTs at the time and was surprised that both the 2nd Gen and JK Wranglers had 6spds. I got even more excited.

Of course, finding and affording a used one was another whole situation. No MT Taco would have had me sweating it out in a Jeep or looking more seriously at Frontiers.

If I couldn't have gotten my 17 MT, I likely would have gotten a tundra because I'd be looking for months for a 2012-2015 Tacoma and never find one. Then I'd go buy an FRS or another IS300 with MT for the non truck duties.

Same here. It was hard finding used 2nd Gens. The ones that I found to be in the range were from out of state. I was going to be happy with 2007 through 2009. There was a well priced 2013, but it didn't last long and I don't think the used car lot knew what it had.

The whole thing was with me giving up the full time motorcycle life meant that I was getting an MT.

TBH, I did try to find unmolested late 2000's WRX and Legacy 2.5GT wagons. But, they were even more rare. I gave the up pretty quick. In the end, the Subarus would have had me in trouble where I can just screw around with the Taco.

    FRS is tossable fun.

when i put down the deposit on this truck i wasn't sure i'd get it. there were two other folks trying to get the first MT Pro delivery in Texas and i was #3 so it wasn't looking great. i got it, but the other choice if the Taco didn't happen was a Focus RS. the MY with fatal head gasket issues. i apparently signed up for either the good or bad unicorn, ended up getting the good one. and i'm totally confident my truck is more fun than the RS.

Before I bought my 2016, I looked hard at 2012-2015 tacos (the mid cycle refresh). Anything I wanted was $27,000+ so I figured it made more sense to buy new and unmolested, plus you got WAY better financing.

When I was originally looking, the ranger had only been gone a couple years. I was looking at used ones, but the prices were crazy. Settled on the MT 2014 taco because my dad's 2nd gen was so good. His is a 2012 and he still only has 70k on it. I don't regret the decision to go with the Tacoma back then. I do sort of regret trading up to the 2017 though.

The MT was also a requirement for me. If I couldn't get it I wasn't buying a truck. All the salesman looked at me funny both times I was looking and tried to get me into an AT. Several times I just started to walk out when they refused to stop pushing the AT. Only then did they realize I was serious.

OVTune was the only reason I kept the truck and didn't trade in or sell to go back to a 2nd gen for all of the well documented driveability issues though.

Same reason I went new both times. 3 year old truck with 20-40k on it was only a few $k cheaper than new.

Exactly. I capped myself at under $20k OTD. There was no getting there on a 10yr old Taco with close to 150k. New was the way to go.
