    What's up everyone,

Getting stationed in San Diego for my next duty station. Getting there Labor Day weekend and looking for a good spot to take my dog and wife out for a night or 2 for our first CA trip! Just looking for a area that isn't TOO populated with nice views/trails and possibly either trout or bass fishing around. If you guys have any suggestions let me know!

They don't have to meet all the criterias but would be nice lol. I know some of you have those secret spots you might not want other people to know about, so in that case feel free to PM me :anonymous::rofl:. Willing to travel up to 2 hours but that's about it for the first trip since a lot of my gear hasn't arrived yet. Hope to see you guys on the trails / at the malls.

P.S selling my bed rack for $650

    Pics for attention:

San Diego is a great place to be stationed. I spent 3.5 years at Miramar from '79 through '82. A lot has changed since then I'm sure.

Judging by the truck and the bike, you'll be happy here.

As for a weekend camping spot, I still havent gotten out much due to life and such, but only been here a few months

OP, there are some great views and trails around Palomar Mt from what I read. Might start getting less crowded now.

im a fishermen myself Lake Hodges near Escondido has some of the best bass fishing in socal. its been very hot so the bit has been tough but if you just chase the shade and look for cover they are all hiding in there.

Thanks fellas, I’ll give these a shot. Looked up some Palomar videos. Nice views. Fishing looks a little packed but not a deal breaker. I’ll have to read up on Lake Hodges. Nothing like the fight of a good bass.

tbh i don't even go to TEG unless i have friends visiting. the lines are too long and i don't live nearby. when they open the one downtown that'll be my go-to but i honestly don't think that one is ever going to open.

when you live in san diego long enough you find a local shop you frequent more than others based on the price/quality/distance scale but i figure i'd just give OP a good starting point until they can establish that type of relationship with some place.

good points. TEG is not my favorite, by far. Wife and I prefer Burritos Luna at Palm and Georgia in IB. Better and no long lines.

We came from Dallas, and miss only the BBQ, though there are a few good places here.

Welcome! Thank you for your service (former Marine here). Tons of great trails and spots near borrego. You can order some BLM (bureau of land management) maps which give you detailed info. Also be aware a few of the trails have been closed all over socal due to the fires we've had last year so do your research before heading out
