Just bought a wrecked 2009 5 speed 2.7 4 cylinder. Was hit in the front end and drivers airbag went off. Waiting to get it in the frame shop to get the frame straightened, but was doing some stuff to it around the house today (removed remains of front bumper, grille, etc.) and pulled the cracked radiator and ac condenser (this wasn't cracked, full of coolant but had to take it out because I'm going to replace the radiator core support). Stuck a little radiator out of a fourwheeler in it just so I could fill with water and move it around the yard. When I started it up and tried to move it, the Check engine light and Trac Off light were on and while it idles perfectly it won't rev up at all when I give it throttle.

Never tried to move it before today, bought it at auction so I can't quiz previous owner. I am assuming it is some sort of limp mode, but can't find anything on a limp mode in these trucks, everytime I search all I come up with is info on 2012 V6's with pump issues.

Anybody know if there is a limp mode due to the airbag going off in this? and is there a way around it? I can't find anything on a manual 4 cylinder having an issue with this. I was told you could drive this truck after the airbag had went off just like older models with no issues other than the light being on in the dash, was I misinformed?

I'm sure it is throwing codes but I don't have a scanner and can't drive it down to NAPA the way it is to use theirs.

If you don't pull the codes you're not going to get it fixed.

OK, first off I lied, it isn't the check engine light. It has the "maint req'd" light on and the Trac Off light.

And I know the owner of the NAPA (only parts store in the small town near me) and so I borrowed his OBD II scanner at closing time. It says "no DTCs detected" so it isn't throwing any codes; which really doesn't help me much.

have you checked to see if the actual throttle pedal inside the truck is connected to the harness... sounds like the trac off light could be to a bad abs wire or simply the evap system check.... I dont know of any limp mode that these trucks will go into wherein they will start and idle perfectly fine but not rev. even SAIS limp mode allows something like 20-25* of throttle blade angle.

Was actually checking that, had a Ford Powerstroke years ago that would get a bad connection at the pedal and only idle, but this is the first Toyota I have had with an electronic throttle rather than a cable. That was all good but I think I have it fixed. Feel kind of stupid honestly, but in my defense I've never messed with an electronic throttle Toyota before.

Turns out they have an ETCS (Electronic Throttle Control Sensor?) fuse in the fuse box, pulled that and it didn't look blown but replaced it anyways and she revs up now. So am assuming either the fuse was bad and I just couldn't see it or it was just corroded some and wasn't getting a connection.

Also caused the Trac Off light to go off, interestingly enough.
