Tacoma - OVTUNE - VFTUNER - Update Info and Original Development

Hi, i’m a new member on the forum but a long time reader since 2015. I have read all the 2434 pages of this topic though.


I had the same issue with 1.5 base on 04A61.


Going uphill in 6th the transmission downshift to the 5th gear but then won’t let it go and try to do all the hard work instead of downshift to 4th gear. The truck slow down and can’t keep up as I push the throttle a bit further, it will slingshot into 3rd Gear suddenly.


I installed the 2.0 beta and erase the LV and AT and it still does the same...


I really like the smooth shifting and power of the 2.0, it drive almost like my 4runner 2007 and FJ Cruiser, both AT.


But, the tip-in is still there though, remind me the Performance 1.5 tune.


To me, if the tip in was smoother, like every toyota truck, and there was no issue with the 5th gear downshift on steep hill the 2.0 tune would be perfect and my everyday tune. I still use the stock tune for the smoothness and non issues overall.

 

2.0 1st Beta (04B04) (4.88 tune) plays great with the 6th to 5th downshift (sometimes partial lock and then 4th if needed. That weird drop to 3rd is gone. Behaves like a normal truck with some pep. Digging the idea of octane variable tune.

 

I only have about 30 miles on 2.0 A61 so I can’t comment on the dead pedal yet. Did you guys clear learned values after flashing? I had that issue on 1.5 but I reflashed and cleared learned values and it fixed the dead pedal for me. Liking 2.0 so far very responsive but still very controllable.

 

I did, both LV and AT. I drove 100km today, on and off road, multiple stop and start the engine to learn my riding style. Still has the dead pedal on steep hill in 5th gear.

 

04B04 here, have not experienced any issues on the highway at all. I've used both 2.0 betas, and had some quirks but still early days. In 6th I can shift it normally to 5th or 4th, relatively easily!

I still find it mind boggling how different these trucks are.

 

Me too. Waiting on handheld so dont have tune yet. After TSB my trans shifts and downshifts almost perfectly even after a year. So hope tune doesn't change that.

 

So.. Flashed 2.0 and did everything said on the instructions page. First test went well and smooth.

Tomorrow I'll start hauling for a ~3800miles, will see how it performs

And how’s the shifting? I’m running the first 4.88 2.0 BETA and it shifts pretty well.

 

Got twenty miles on the EROM today. All is well in Tacoma land! Still breaking in, but I have no issues.

 

04A61 2018 TRD OR here and 2.0 has been great for the city driving and regular 60mph farm roads here in Texas. I took it on the highway to test the 6-5th downshift. Hallway up a medium grade hill I had to press the throttle about 3/4 before it shifted to 5th. I feel if I would’ve went a little more it would’ve dropped all the way to 4th but I reached the top before that happened. This is a minor issue to me because I drive highways very little but just wanted to add my feedback for testing purposes. I have about 30 miles on 2.0 so far.
