Took my prototype skid off to send to joe for measurements, and decided I’ll replace it with a trail toys skid (the plastic one). The prototype is 3/16” (production will be 1/8”) so it’s a bit too heavy for my liking.

When I removed the skid, one of the studs managed to get all fucked up so I’d have to fix that too. Plus with the skid being sandwiched up against the fuel tank, it trapped moisture and was getting pretty rusty.

Morning OP! So I'm still rolling my yak toting situation around in my head and I think I've come up with something I like. Plus I can do it on the cheap cheap.

I'm thinking about just fabbing myself some bed bars with some square stock and angle. Maybe give them a little rise above the bed rails for bed space, but not much. The reason I haven't really considered this option yet is that my yak is too long to be handled by the bed bars only. BUUUUUUUT, I've got one of those hitch extender t-bone thingys, which I can easily modify to rest at the same height as my theoretical bed bars. With a yak mount on a bed bar and one on the t-bone, I should be good to go.

I like this plan because, in my opinion, lower is better. It keeps them off of the roof, out of the wind, lower so they're easier to load, can be done by me for cheap, and keeps my bed free! I'm basically a genius.

Here's where you come in. You and your newly acquired Softopper. Would you mind taking a look at that thing and maybe a taking a few measurements for me? In my head, I should be able to fab some bed bars that will not interfere with a Softopper, as long as I keep the rise piece of the bed bar, where it comes up off of my piece of angle, sucked far enough into the inside of the bed rail. Does that make sense?

If you're mopping up what I'm spilling, I would be much obliged for some input on dimensions. I can compensate you for your time with some nice cold BLO the next time I see you. There may even be a little OTPHJ action in there for ya.....

I've channeled my inner @Comatose and created the following, to help with visualization.....

    Untitled.jpg

Also, a measurement from the top of the bed rail to the lowest point on the top of the Softopper (probably the frame) might be helpful. So I can see if my yak can be on the bed bars when the Softopper is......erect. I might not be able to put the rise on the bed bars like I want and still have that happen.

    Much love. :hattip:
