My brother in law has that one. He likes it but he doesn't use it like I would. Its not that heavy duty, but it does what its advertised to do.

 

I'm not going to do heavy duty on it, it's simply a surface to work on, with other features that will be nice to have like the outlets and light. plus it's a shelf below to store items.

 

Amy might have just surprised me with one of her choices y'all.

 

Best think I ever did was buy some cheap ass cabinets and put some plywood on top as my work surface. I don't think you've got the space for that though...

 

it is. I told her I'd keep in mind getting tools to use on the house. since we will be doing flooring and crown molding that saw makes really good sense.

 

You can build a work bench now.

Have you ever done crown work before? Do you know how to make the cuts? That shit is annoying as hell but simple once you figure it out. All cuts are upside down and backwards

Build a little mobile work stand like I've got with fold out "wings". It allows for total support of the material you're cutting. I store all my woodworking stuff in it too and its nice and compact. Or not. All I know is I hated cutting stuff with a short workbench.

 

so you recommend just getting it, then cutting and building on the floor for now, and not buying any kind of stand or mobile bench for it?

btw I have like 0 carpentry skills, it will be a learn as I go process, her dad is helping with the flooring/molding because he knows all that stuff.

 

Hey man, you still looking for the unholey mount? I’ve got one for sale if you want. It’s got the ram arm and the perfect squeeze phone holder. I’ve also got their cord clips which are super useful.

 

It really is a PITA at first but once you "get it" you really think to yourself "was i really that dumb before?"

Ill be happy to show help ya out. Luckily, I just finishing building a nook/cubby for my friend at his new house and had to do all the trim and it turned out well.

 

you may just be called upon sir. like I said her dad is going to pitch in, he's super handy/knowledgeable. my dad's more of a finance hand's off kinda guy, never taught me anything hands on...it's super weird I ever got into trucks or anything. growing up on my best friends farm caused it I guess.

 

I recommend doing whatever the hell you want. Lol. What I would do is build a work bench with 2x4s and plywood then eventually build a separate stand on wheels for your miter saw. Best thing you can do in a small shop is have stuff on wheels, like a miter saw on its own stand. Never know when you're cutting material that will be too long for the spot your miter saw is used in.

 

I probably will, building a workbench would be a really good first project for me. it makes me wonder if I should even buy the workbench then, it would still have it's use no doubt..but I could build something exactly as I want it...since she's wanting me to get the saw.

Work benches are great. And you can build it to fit your work space. I'd suggest building it to fit your height as well. Make it comfortable to stand up and work. But yes, buy the lumber and don't buy the HF workbench. One day of working in the floor will be worth it. Or better yet, use the tailgate of your truck. As for the plywood top, get Home Depot to cut it for you to what dimensions you want so you don't have to buy a circular saw too.

 

I own a circular saw actually. Probably needs replaced though lol, it's quite old.

 

I'd still get them to cut it. Lol.
