Since large amounts of water runs through the exhaust at all times while the truck is on, it really does not matter whether or not you get ball or tapered style roller bearings. They will rust out insanely quickly unless you grease them on a regular basis. I would recommend greasing whichever bearings you choose every oil change to ensure that you keep those race cages nice and lubricated to prevent overtemp leading to early bearing failure, since the exhaust runs incredibly hot as well even at the muffler, it is even more critical that you grease them often and regularly. The last thing you want is one shooting out due to failure from lack of grease and overheating then causing a cloggage in your exhaust.

Sealed bearings are more difficult to service then open, so I would run open.

I've heard that hand packing the race with GOJO w/ pumice will not only keep impurity's out but constantly self clean the contact surfaces.

Has anyone replaced their stock muffler bearing with an EGCS bushing?

Drove my 2.7 around town with no cat and no muffler, just the downpipe after ordering the wrong gaskets for my new cat. It was...embarassing.

I've moved to turbo bidextrous auto-oiling muffler bushings. They were invented by the superior Italian engineers at Fiat and really didn't do much for my truck, but the high pitched noises bring all the lady dogs to my yard.

My truck is straight piped, do I still have to worry about the muffler bearings or were they removed with the muffler?

Dont forget to change out the flux capacitor while you are in there. It's cheap insurance

Nope. But youll want to install a bigger stereo to drown out the shreiking and wailing from people as you drive by with a straight piped four cylinder.

Inspired by another manufacturer ‘s active exhaust, I ripped out my OEM system, muffler bearings included, and added it to my Tacoma.

I needed a shop to customize pipes from the headers to the cats but the sound is amazing and I can quiet it down with a flip of the switch if 5-0 is around.

My next mod is getting a flat plane crank in the 4.0 and remove most of the internal counter balancers so it’ll redline over 8K.

Wheel bearings have been press fit and sealed for 20+ years. Why is muffler tech lagging so far behind?
