    It's apparently illegal to have any aftermarket exhaust on your vehicle here and I'm trying to decide if I should return the muffler I just ordered or not lol.

    You live in which county? Last I checked, in my county we have no emissions. We only have safety.

    Exhaust has nothing to do with that. Also, really depends on you vehicle/ noise ratio/ area you live honestly.

    Tint that restricts more than 50 percent light transmission in the front is illegal in VA.

    Ive had that on every truck ive owned, never been pulled.

    Alexandria City haha, we do have emissions though.

    It's a pretty quiet ish flowmaster on a silver Ram 1500, like as long as it isn't a Honda I feel like I should be fine but I'm not sure. I'll throw a couple TBL stickers on there just in case.

    On the other hand, I ran no front plate and 5% tint on my Tacoma for about two years and never had any problems.

    Considering most of the posts on the internet about loud exhaust tickets are from 2004, I'm just gonna assume I'll be relatively okay. I'll just avoid Reston, Falls Church and Vienna like the plague. Oh wait, I already do.

    Exhaust is not an emissions/safety inspection thing. You can cut the muffler out completely and pass safety inspection as long as the exhaust exits in the proper spot.

    § 46.2-1049. Exhaust system in good working order.

    No person shall drive and no owner of a vehicle shall permit or allow the operation of any such vehicle on a highway unless it is equipped with an exhaust system in good working order and in constant operation to prevent excessive or unusual levels of noise;

    As long as it is not stupid loud, like straight piped V8 loud you should be fine. Don't roll through Old Town revving the engine to see if you can make children cry. If you get a ticket, pay it and move on since it is not a moving violation so no points, or go to court and ask the judge what teh legal definition of excessive is and how it is measured. That will be a crap shoot but who knows.

    Exhaust and tint are usually just a pretext to get you pulled over when a police officer doesn't have probable cause for what they actually want to pursue. It's perfectly legal for them to do. If you're going to have a super loud exhaust, make sure everything else is buttoned up right and you're not carrying or doing anything illegal.

    Thoughts...

    How to develop off road driving skills (ords). Does letting a spotter guide you through an obstacle as you drive rather than getting out of your vehicle and assessing the obstacle, choosing a line and then driving it, lessen your ability to improve ords. I like to go off by my self and when confronted with an obstacle, get out and decide how to go. But it is soo nice to have a spotter guide you through. YouTube videos of any more difficult terrain always show spotters. My thoughts are that getting out and discussing a line with a good spotter and then letting them guide you is a good way to get better. The more experience with knowledgeable people, the better you will develop the ords.

    I like to do something similar in my wheeling group. Before a difficult obstacle we’ll decide the line we want to take, and then guide each other through it. There’s not always the luxury of getting out of the truck mid obstacle.

    Hey guys, not specifically tacoma related, but I have started a little business for when I am home for school breaks, and I want to buy a little flatbed trailer. Does anyone know how that would effect my insurance?
