Want to change the bushing in the 5-lug and throw the short throw shifter in ‘er before I send it off.

The little clear plastic one is a pita to install. I didnt even install the one in the 92. The dealer did the bushings in my 04 with the parts I gave them so who knows if it actually got done lol.

Something about them going inside the drive shaft. Will need to look them up.

Maybe I’ll forego it, it’s just sometimes you can’t shift it into 1st smoothly. Takes some time to find it. Other times it shifts like butter.

My 04 lost its ability to hold 4th or 3rd rather suddenly. Going down the road and horrendous grinding sounds came out of nowhere as the shifter popped out of gear. Then I couldnt get the shifter in all the way anymore.

I tried my hardest to replace it myself, as the one in the 92 was easy. But for some reason, I couldnt get the shifter cap off no matter how hard I tried. Could not get it to press down enough as I assume some of the old bushing was caught under it. Gave up after an hour of trying and took it in to the dealer.

Yeah that doesn’t sound fun haha. I guess I’ll leave it alone. It shifts fine, it’s just there’s that occasional time it doesn’t.

Try and see if you can get the cap off since youve got the trim off already. If you can its in easy job. Press down and turn.

    Off with the old LBJs.

    upload_2019-8-16_20-18-3.jpg

    Knuckles off. Upper BJs removed.

I'll drop off the knuckles and new wheel bearings at my favorite shop tomorrow and give them some cash to press in the new bearings and install the seals.

Finally fixed my annoying squeak. Turned out one of the leafs had gotten twisted and the bracket that keeps them together was rubbing. Holy hell I can actually enjoy driving my truck again :woot:

Took all my camping gear out, and washed the bedmat. Was starting to mold some because of all the chili that got dumped on it due to having to abandon camp in a hurry. IMG_20190817_104246907_HDR.jpg

Black and white striped animals that werent zebras wouldnt leave my campsite alone. Despite blasting my cadilac horns or shining lightbars at them. They left just long enough for me to throw all my gear and dirty dishes in the bed and gtfo to a hotel. Chili in the bed was sure better than getting sprayed by one.

Got some slight vibes and higher pitched howl when I hold the gas pedal just so. Now notice this. What's going on? Just put new to me 4.56 gears in. I may have overfilled slightly since the axle was on jack stands but this wouldn't cause this right? Is this the pinion bearing making noise/vibes and seal leaking?
