Lift Kit on a College Student budget?

Thinking about maybe putting in a 3in lift around the end of this year or the beginning of next year. I've looked at RC and Bilstein but not sure which one would be the best. I definitely cannot afford to splurge on new wheels tho so it would have to be compatible with stock.

I wouldn’t go 3” on a budget.
Especially if you plan to run larger tires.
You are pushing it close and should probably do UCA’s.

 

it's going to cost more $$ to go from 2.5" to 3" lift. I'll stick with a mild lift if i'm on a budget, like 2" or less.

 

Spacers, like 300 bucks and it looks the same as a truck with 3 grand worth of shit. Easy to install easy to remove if you plan on changing your setup down the road.

 

Any brands in particular?

 

Spacers arent the best way to lift, puts a lot of stress on the stock suspension components. they are cheap though

I ran a toytec spacer kit at one point, worked fine and the ride stayed the same as stock. a little jittery in the rear going over speed bumps but eh cheap and effective if you just want the look of a lifted truck.

 

if your going for looks then get a spacer lift, if you want functionality then at the very least get bilsteins.

you can get bilsteins set at 1.5" for lest than $400. will set close to level

 

You're not going to get any lift for $500 if your alignment cams are seized.

 

You're a prerunner....save more money and do a proper spindle lift and either an AAL in the rear or a new leaf pack.

 

Bilstein 5100s, oem coils, wheelers 3 leaf aal. Total cost is around 5-600. It's what I did on mine with the same "college student" budget

 

What does that mean exactly? That the lift will take longer to install?

 

Save up another $300-$400 dollars and buy something that’ll get you a decent lift.

After you lift it, you will need to get an alignment. The adjustment cams that are rotated to change the alignment are famous for rusting into the bushings. The only solution is to go after it with a sawzall. Then replace the cams and bushings or cams and new lower control arms. The OEM cams add up to about $150. New bushings are about $100 plus labor to install them or go with new Moog lower control arms for about $200 per pair.

 

Put that money into your education then you can get what you actually want.
