Yup. GEICO insured my salvaged Jetta. But they won’t pay true value if in accident it says it in the fine print

It will be. Downsizing and packing is going great, got 10 contractor bags full of rubbish and bulk items two dump runs, and packed up a ton of stuff already in bins for the listing pictures and open house.

On the title it says insurance salvaged rebuilt vehicle. Does anyone know what that actually means? If it’s salvaged or rebuilt? Seller said it was rear ended

Have him call the insurance companies first to see what it’s listed as. Then go city hall and ask questions about the registration. The biggest risk is not getting certified by the third party reconstruction shop, cause in all honestly all of them won’t certify cause the don’t want the liability

Salvaged still needs to be reinspected to pass, but they sell you the car back with the salvaged title and you can drive it all year before you need renewal. That is when it has to pass inspection by a certified shop that does the repairs. You aren't supposed to do the repairs yourself. When it passes, it gets the rebuilt title. There's nothing wrong with getting a salvaged/rebuilt vehicle as long as you know what you are getting into and pay accordingly. Any frame damage, no matter how minor will warrant a salvaged certificate. Even on unibody cars. A perfect frame with damage to the rocker panel may be considered as frame damage by the insurance claims person.
You drive the vehicle, not the title, is the best way to put it.

Main scam to watch our for is the ones who make like it has value of clean title. Second is where they buy the salvaged title/ vehicle, then steal a matching vehicle, swap vins, dump the damaged one, and make a sale with the stolen one. Some guys are good with that so double check the vins matching on different parts of the car, firewall, dash, frame.. missing door jamb sticker is the first red flag.

at least with a rebuilt title, it has the documented history of the damage with the repair back to OEM spec.

its also possible for someone to wreck their car and fix it at home and sell it as a “clean” title and covering the damage with new parts...but no proof if the frame or deep repair was properly done or not.

its slippery everywhere and why the ‘buyer beware’ is always mentioned.

its all on each individuals comfort level

So very true, Imagine if Toyota's recall of rusty frames fit the bill... frame is damaged and replaced with a new one. Still has a clean title. It's because the Salvaged/Rebuilt declarations are only insurance terms.
