Knew there was a purpose for these gun cable locks. Im thinking of moving it to the other side w hose clamp. So if thieves bypass hose clamp they wont drop my tailgate/damage if they get stuck w gun lock

Buying stolen parts encourages and rewards stolen parts. This guy obviously stole the tailgate and e ery tailgate he gets from his "buddy" ie: the poor sap whos truck he jacked.

Unless I'm mistaken, your tailgate has to be in the down position to be removed/stolen, correct? So just leave it up and locked.

Update: came back to the parking lot at Walmart with my tailgate hanging from the back up camera earlier this past week.

AA63F25B-A903-455A-AA22-5E357B29795E.jpg Hinge design has been changed on my 2019 from my 2016. Looks like Toyota tried to make it even easier to remove. Hose clamp can be pushed to the side.

Yeah I tried the hose clamp and it just slides right over on the 2019 with little pressure. Useless now. Have to buy one of those steel brackets people are selling I guess. Luckily they aren't very expensive.

You guys with just hose clamps have to at least do this:

Really, hose clamps are a joke!

What size washer is that you are using? Did you have to do any modifications for it to fit over the existing bolt,

There is a nylon spacer under the washer too, else you would pinch and keep the cable eye from moving out and in when you open and close the tailgate. Other than the fender washer and spacer, no other modifications are necessary.
