I got this in the mail today and they want me to sell my Tacoma for a $1000.00 so they can scrap it and to encourage me to buy a Hybrid vehicle. Not a chance!
I feel a little insulted by this letter. They should be able to see that my truck has passed emissions since it was new, I take care of my stuff!

I had to let two of my prized cars go and I am going to hang on to this Taco for a while!

Sometimes it works in your favor. My buddy had a ‘95 Cherokee that he paid $300 for, and California bought it back from him for $1,000.

Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds
And this is why your state is broke

But in other news I’m starting my own environmental program. The California car relocation program. I’ll give you up to $1000 for any vehicle built 1996 and older and rehome it to a emissions free zone!

Lower taxes, can own what ever I want + room for animals and an entire state for off-roading...works for me.

If you like paying to live in CA still have fun...someone has to foot the bill there for the derp. lol

So they will give you 1000 bucks to scrap your truck, just to help air quality? So, what about all those resources and energy it takes for producing a new vehicle? It’s like the Prius drivers who leave there lights on at home, or leave the car running with the AC on for their pets.

Nice truck! The key sentence in that letter:

“If your vehicle is a classic car or otherwise valuable to you, please disregard this letter.”

Why is it called a buy back if they never owned it in the first place?

They probably peddling some Federal grant to help clean the bad air out there.

The local AQ department had trade your gas lawnmower for electric one and it became a $ maker for some.

Doesn't anyone think it's strange that it is addressed to "Current Resident" and not the owner's name?

Its required to pass emissions, but they'll scrap it in the name of emissions? Logic.

Anyway the term 'economy' is a stupid one. If I spend more than anyone else, I have the largest economy, even if I'm winning the race to the bottom.

Yeah but the letter stated "if your vehicle is a classic car OR IS OTHERWISE VALUABLE TO YOU, please disregard this letter."
So they did admit there that this letter is total bullshit to folks who VALUE their vehicle.

Exactly (sorry I missed your post before I posted)
They're basically trying to NOT insult you or your vehicle with that disclaimer. To me, if that disclaimer was not in the letter then yeah, I'd be insulted too.

Must be why the CA salvage yards have such a good selection for quality used parts.

Live in a state where there are no state inspections, no smog tests, and very few rules and you can't find jack shit in a salvage yard. Its all still on the roads.
