Same. I’m at that point where all the parents are in their 80’s and they’re failing. My wife has been gone for over two weeks with her mom whose surgery took an unexpected negative turn. But that’s the cycle.

So I changed out the PCV valve. Old one still jiggled. That doesn’t necessarily mean it’s still functioning right?

Oki doke. Let me drive around for a week and see if I get normal oil spewage.

Also I remembered I have another catch can I got ages ago. Going to hook it up as a CCV can when I resolve these PCV issues

 

Valve guide seals on cyl1 done. On the the next 5 cylinders.

finally installed upgraded fuel pump that i have had sitting on the shelf for 6 years. man, the top of the fuel tank dirty as fuck. also, no one ever said anything about a cover covering the top of the fuel pump. that was a bitch to get off to get to the connector. but everything works and only took about 4 hours to do.

 

Well, it has been a long day. But, all the valve guide seals are done. Will start putting back together tomorrow. For now shower and date night with the lady.

 

Seems like quite the job. What made you embark on this task and what resources did you use to get it all take apart/put together?

 

I was consuming 1qt per 1k miles. I picked up a in car valve spring compressor kit. I will try and add a link later. An E8 to remove 2 studs at the bottom of the front timing cover. Oh yeah! I used a universal spark plug wire remover, but I cut off the plastic over the ends so the metal ends grabbed the seal to pull it off. I had a friend help operate the tool while I pulled out and installed the keepers.

very impressive work man!

 

4 hours is very fast. mine probably took 6 with 2 guys.

 

i was by myself and yeah it sucked. dirty as shit. hardest part was trying to get the stupid hose that comes off the back back on. and also getting the cover off the top of the pump. ended up dropping the driveshaft to get more room up in there. thankfully im not a big guy and can get between the muffler and fuel tank sitting up. but, put about 5 gallons in it and it didnt blow up so, im happy about that. having it on empty with the light on helped dropping and lifting the tank up and glad i got the fuel that low in it

 

agree on all that the first one I did was a fellow tw members. having the tank nearly empty was a big help. very important- check ALL YOUR PARTS before embarking. I fortunately had my kit with me. 2 of the gas rated electric connectors were missing from my buddy's kit. we would have wasted time had I not had my parts to loan.
