Its kind of funny that it has to pass a state smog exam first before it can qualify for the Air Quality Buyback program

Easier to regulate emmissions than it is to regulate people breeding. China tried that, didn't work out so well lol.

I agree though in places like SF and LA emissions laws are a necessity. The smog is still pretty bad even with them in place, if they weren't it would be uninhabitable. Look at photos of Los Angeles circa 1950s 1960s before emissions laws went started being implemented.

I complain about them but I get why they are in effect. My solution is to move though. They'll never take away my 1st gen. Next they're going to start taxing people that have older gas powered vehicles until it's just not affordable to keep them.

Typical of CA. The morons that run the CARB actually think that fuel powered vehicles are the major polluters... solar and electric vehicle/panel construction burn more fossil fuels than cars do.

This is the first step before CA decides to “force” the issue... political, all political.

And all about money. 1000 dollar “buy back”

How are they buying anything back when they never owned it in the first place.

Should be fair market value buy out.

As a general rule, I don’t care for the nanny state bitching at me for silly stuff like the amount of pollution a vehicle puts out when the politicians cruise around in convoys of big SUV’s and fly private jets pumping hydrocarbons into the air like it’s an Olympic sport.

Short version. They can eat a d!ck.

Maybe they should give 1000 bucks worth of public transportation credits?

Wouldn’t work in CA. Public transit takes far longer than it should and is a joke of efficiency. A squad of 2nd LTs could do a better job, and faster...

Isn't this money funded by a smog fee on new vehicles, and there's a limited amount that can be paid out each year? It's stupid to lump it in with the rest of the CA budget or blame the debt on it.

And they probably need the smog check before taking the vehicle so they can document how much the program is reducing emissions, otherwise you get morons on forums like this making up stupid shit up about how little effect it has or how x, y & z produce more smog, etc. without any references.

Reading all these comments from people hating on cali makes me cringe lol.

Besides a Tacoma (obviously) $1,000 for car older than ‘96 is a great deal.

And yea California is the worst! My 6 figure salary and short work week give me plenty of time to do the things I love in the most diverse and beautiful regions in the world. So rough out here guys

And the women are nasty - hate all those beautiful long legs, tight physique, blond hair w/ curves in just the right places

All this fresh clean, crisp air is tough on my lungs too

e/ too bad all your great grandparents couldn’t quite make it over to the west coast. Gold rush wasn’t for the weak :/

Shame California has to be associated with the majority of the nation. The rest of the world is laughing at you.

Replacing everything worn, broken, and rusted.
Maaaaan, thats some BS. No way. Id be insulted too.

As noted above, why the hell would it matter if it passes emissions if they wanting to scrap it?

Anyone else see the irony that your truck was assembled in the bay area (Fremont, CA-NUMMI) and now they would like to dismember it there?

Enjoy the freedom while it’s voluntary. There was a article (earlier this year) about a guy who moved to Australia with a antique piano (family heirloom). When it finally cleared customs, he found they had replaced the ivory keys with plastic keys.

Because ivory is illegal? It sounds more like someone in customs realized they could jack those keys and make some money, hoping he wouldn't notice the swap

I’m pretty sure California has like $30,000,000,000 in surplus. Lol

Would be less of a problem if middle america would bother to recycle. A battery that lasts 10 years vs how many thousands of gallons of fuel over that span. Recycling isn't free but it's less energy intensive than mining, drilling, and oil shipping with way lower risk involved.

They are worried about air quality and doling out trees to make that notice, lmfao.. I don’t like the word Hate, But... I Hate Comifornia more every day I live here, once I have enough to move, I’m outa this turdhole! When I worked R&D for KTM there were many Austrians that had info from their country that proved vehicles pose the least risk to global warming, even having catalytic converters doesn’t hardly change the air quality. I am certain someone will disagree with that statement though. The State forgot that the US recently had one of the biggest oil spills- looking at you guys BP!, but we are held to a higher standard than our own country?

The issue with recycling is the only thing they want is aluminum. Glass, producers would rather start with sand. Plastic, it’s just piled up and going to land fills since China stoped taking it.

Yeah but that was a Jeep, no offense, the Toyota has a better track record for longevity.
