I've assumed that the noise is coming from the AC compressor. They cycle ON and OFF as needed.

I have the whistle, sounds almost like a harmonic ringing? Its especially bad if I'm accelerating with a trailer load. Took me forever to figure out it was coming from the AC.

Yeah, my guess is the whistle and darth vader noises are one in the same.... gas expanding out of the TXV... but there is a certain combination of heat load and refrigerant pressure/flow rate that causes the TXV to resonate/whistle.

Could it be the plugged drain line issue. I had it, a swooshing sound when turning. A blast of air up the drain line resulted in cups of liquid coming out.

Yes mine does this as well. Drives me insane. You can’t hear it If your fan speed is on 3 or 4 but it’s annoyingly loud at 1 & 2 fan speeds.

I don’t think in this case it is. But that sounds like a pain.

Didn't add any compressor oil when they replaced the evaporator?

Mine did it for a few days. Then was out of refrigerant. Ugh.

What ended up becoming of this? Although I have a 2nd gen, mine just started making that whoosh/darth vader sound about every 20 seconds as well. So far the AC has stayed cool. I am headed out on a roundtrip soon so I really hope it stays that way...

Ever since they replaced Evap, my AC has been noisy. It whooshes, whistles, etc. I've gotten used to it. The real problem is that my AC only operates at about 80%. It just doesn't get COLD like it used to. Anything over 85 degrees outside here means the AC sucks. Dealership never could fix it.
I really should try taking it to a place that specializes in AC work and just have them look at it.

With all the technicians I've trained on how to use the equipment they bought from us ( I worked for Snap On and Hunter) AC theory and alignment theory were, by far, the ones they struggled with the most.
